Aren't you fed up with all these people that live beyond their means and than declare themselves bankrupt?
leaving the rest of us to pay for them

Yes, it does not seem fair does it

No I am not fed up with people who get into a financial mess. It is our society and wrong education that are to blame. Who ever taught children how to manage money?

And if the finance companies lose some money, all well and good. Then they may not be able to shovel so many $millions on annual bonuses to their directors and top managers. Perhaps then they will learn how other people live.

you think so do you!
I took out a trust deed (scottish IVA) a couple of months ago, because myself and my wife could not afford to keep up repayments on our loans and credit cards, the interest they put on these things is scandalous! I have been off work since last october because I am getting treatment for bipolar disorder, I have been off work numerous times over the years and it gets harder all the time trying to feed and clothe my kids, how can someone in my situation possibly pay off all my debts? the government has set up IVA's etc to help people and I for one am all for that!
And I will never go near a god damn credit card again!

Makes you wonder why you bother, doesn't it?
Surely it would be easier to do this ourselves?
Or sit at home and claim benefits? I would be better off...

everyone lives beyond thier means, that is why credit card companies make so much money.

not everyone goes bankrupt to "run and hide". yes I have to agree that those who do should be taught some budgeting skills, however.....

some of us went bankrupt because of other reasons. I had £156,000 worth of business guarantees when my firm collapsed (not just mine the largest manufacturer in the WORLD, amognst others, went bust that same year because of a global decline in our industry). When I had been setting the business up and people wanted me to personally guarantee the borrowings I actually said "you can only bankrupt me the once, so go on then" and I was proved correct.

bankruptcy is not a nice thing, ok it has gotten slightly easier in last few years because it only lasts a year not 3, but I wouldnt think anyone does it with a smile on their face.

while I see where you are coming from with this question, your wording leaves a lot to be desired and is actually insulting to those of us who havent just spent other peoples money on wine, women and song.

My ex was like that - when we split up I found loads of refused applications from loan sharks (even they knew he was a waste of space!). I was very naive and assumed that as he was in such a good job, that the things he bought were paid for with cash! (we had separate accounts). He still tried passing on his debt to me though!!! Eventually I hear he went into voluntary liquidation. A few years on and he is now spending like he was before. He didn't learn any lessons from it. D!ck head!

I am not so sure you pay for them.
Actually I am more bothered by the very high salaries some managers get. The standard seems to evolve to 1.000.000.000 US $ pa.

Can I add here that I just read that in Britain many people are in financial trouble and that in Thailand EVERY household has an average debt of about 2 to 3 times a mimimum year salary? I do not thin all these people are personally guilty.

Banks who giive loans too easy should lose their money.

And Mr Cobbs who offers loans here and, I think, violates the community rules by doing so, has no site, but I had 638000 hits in Google. And he is number 93 on a site listing the famous Nigerian scams.

Be careful!

Have a nice day.

I have also been bankrupt in 2003. This was not because i wanted to just rid myself of the debt, it is because my ex partner up and left and moved to Scotland where a lot of the debt would not chase him, and as most of the things were in joint names i had to pay, i tried to pay things but i just could not keep up. I went to the CAB and they said my only option was to go bankrupt. The debt i was left with totaled more than £25,000 not a small amount. Since then even though i was not the one who incurred the debt he did and i didnt play a role in spending it, he did. I have been unable to get any sort of credit, not even a normal bank account, i can only have a basic one. I am also due to start Uni as a mature student in September and i am unable to get a student account with my bank. I have no idea if i will ever be able to get a car/ house etc on credit but at least i am no longer scared to answer my door. I have been turned down for some jobs due to bankruptcy so it is not something to go into lightly.

It's a total dereliction of personal responsibility.

Some of these people need some financial discipline and to learn the difference between need and want.

The changes in the laws on personal bankruptcy a few years ago has made it an easy option to spend like a mad fool on credit cards etc and then walk away fom the debt, not good. Where several years ago if someone declared bankruptcy you knew they were in a real financial mess, not now. It needs tightening up again.

Not everyone lives beyond their means that goes bankrupt, businesses can fail for any number of reasons causing hardship and often homelessness. And most people who declare themselves bankrupt don't do it for the fun of it, just to spite the rest of society. There is still a still a stigma over bankruptcy, and its takes quite a long time to get over, plus the problems with bank accounts, mortgages and the like, sorry perhaps you were citing a particular case. But Ive seen at first hand what it can do and it isn't something you take lightly.

It's just a legal way to steal , unfair and should be illegal

Red,Green and Blue
yes but i think theres not so much of it lately, if you are thinking of going down the route please don't as it will be detrimental against your credit record ie NO CREDIT FOR 6 YEARS!!! for a business its the easy way out for others they need to really think about the debt , how much , and can i go on an iva plan where most of the debt is wiped out and you pay the rest.

barkusmuhl
the creditors (lenders) are the ones who lose money when someone declares bankruptcy... not you or me. And don't worry about the money lenders (credit card companies, banks, money marts etc)... they do very very well.

Yes. People should always pay their debts, even if it takes them their whole life to do it. If one person gets something for free it means that someone else has had to pay more than their share, and that is not fair.

tootles
I fully agree! i mean, it's not rocked science is it - you just DONT BUY THINGS YOU CANT AFFORD TO PAY FOR!!!!
