Citizen DeCat
As I own the banks, do I have to continue paying my mortgage and credit cards?
(UK): As you are probably aware, the British taxpayers have bailed out the nasty, money grubbing, rude, greedy banks.

Well, now it's payback time. As I (and you) own these filthy institutions now, surely we can all stop paying our mortgages and credit card bills. We're in the driving seat now, we call the shots. Stuff the banks.

I demand satisfaction.

Too right, we own the banks so let's have a bit of what's ours.

For example, i could do with a table and chair for my new office so i think i'll go grab me one from the reception at my local HBOS, they are mine after all.

Absolute Rotter
I told my local bank manager to call in at the manor to discuss his loan old boy, I tore him off a strip I can tell you. Especially when I told him I was repossessing his bank, In floods of tears he was. Jolly good fun. Tip top.

Pay a mortgage ? credit cards? have you lost your mind DeCat? I have never heard such nonsense before in my life. Of course you don't pay them, you don't pay people in trade, we are the aristocracy, not the great unwashed. Dammit man you will be thinking of paying your tailor next, quite preposterous. You want to keep quiet, talking about things like that will only lead to trouble, mark my words. The great unwashed will start to assume they are as good as we are and they won't pay, it is their duty to pay or my families companies will go out of business, it will only end in tears.

Dear Citizen, one appreciates that your French ancestry will out every now and then, especially now given this major theft by our rulers. 'Stuff the banks indeed,' say they, 'stuff them with cash, let the expense account lunching continue and let the citizens eat Morrisons' Value Battenburg!'

I think you should gather a few friends together and storm Chequers. After all, direct action has been known to work before.

Sorry, neither you, nor the British taxpayers own the banks. I rather think it will be HM Treasury which now owns the shares in the banks which has been purchased with public money. In principle, it may be argued that the banks are part owned now by taxpayers but given that taxpayers, either individually or collectively, do not have any of the properietry rights that are the usual hallmarks of "ownership", this is certainly not the legal reality.

We'll all buy a copy from you when we hear your sales cry "Stuff the banks- Big Issue".

We pay taxes to the government so that we can legally stay and work in the country. If you don't you are an illegal citizen and has no rights to stay and work in the country. This commonly use of taxpayers money is actually the country's reserves. Also if you owe money on a mortgage or a credit card you must pay them otherwise you may lose your home or be made a bankrupt. This is the laws of contract.

Cari
Well, that would hardly be fair would it?

I'm a taxpayer ... and so are several million other people in the UK.

I don't have a mortgage and I have no credit card debt aside from minimal living costs which I pay off in full each month.

There are some people that have massive mortgages and excessive credit card debt, so how is it fair to me if they just stop paying them?

They are blatant thieves Sir we should arrest these sorts of people.

Or simply have them shot, otherwise we would have to pay the Queen again to keep them in a free warm en-suite bed and board

you can certainly give it a try but i doubt it will work out the way you want it to.

Naw. Consider it re-investment. You avoid the capital gains tax that way.
