Someone I know has just changed his surname as he moved house to hide from some debts. I've been argueing with him that it's tracable, but he's adamant with a change of address and surname, there's no way he can be traced. Settles this arguement for me....? |

Did the guy change his SSN too? Unless he is planning on dropping off the face of the earth and never interacting with people again he may have problems. He might be able to avoid creditors for a while but they will eventually catch on, especially when he applies for credit, gets a bank account, gets arrested or a ticket, applies for certain apartments, or even apply for certain jobs.
Also, how is he changing his last name? Did he go and do it legally or is he just calling himself a different name now? If he did it legally then the creditors can find him. If he is just calling himself a different name then he has not changed it on his driver's license. The creditors will find him. |

its all done by social security number. he can run and hide so people cant call or mail him but its still on his record and unless he deals with it - it will remain so |

They'll find him. He's telling people his new name and he's giving out his address. The collection agencies will eventually contact someone who will tell them about it. |

This person will be found for the simply reason when you change your name they record it at the courthouse and it becomes a public record. Also, this person is not the brightest light bulb in the box, because when you do a change of address his bills will follow him where ever he goes. |

Yes it will be traceable, he/she would have had to register the surname - plus how did they get a mortgage on a new name without credit history - if it were that easy we'd all do it ! |
