Most bank web sites have that info - it varies from bank to bank. $1000 does sound a bit high, though. You could also just call the bank and ask to speak with an officer. |

You can open a bank account with as little as $25. As a minor you would only be allowed to open a savings account because a checking account is a contract of sorts. You can stil put money in and take it out, but if you will be taking out more than 6 times a month, the Federal Government will not allow you to earn interest on the money. You can have your paycheck, or any portion of it, deposited in your account. Is your father on drugs, or is he just a jerk? You should learn how to save and spend your money before you are on your own. |

Surely it depends on the country you are living in, but with 16 you should be able to open a banc account on your own.
And, yes, of course you can open a banc account without any amount of money. |

most banks charge about 50 bucks to open an account. some more, some less...
to make it easier for yourself, try and go with a national bank, like Bank of America, USAA, etc... it'll be easier for you to take care of your finances...
i think it's great that you're interested in finances. but, proceed with caution. don't get pulled into the credit card dilemma... more people ruin thier credit before they are 21 that it takes them years to get out from under the debt...
good luck. |

most banks do student savings or checking accounts for no charge, usually with a $50 or $100 opening balance, some for a lot less. they also don't usually charge students a monthly fee.
you'll need a checking account to cash your paycheck in the long run. most banks have started charging fees for non-customers to cash checks, others don't let you cash them at all.
sounds more like your dad wants to keep a tab on your earnings so he's making you cash your checks through him.
you'll be a lot better off opening an account in your name so you can start establishing a credit history for when you want to buy a car, get an apartment or credit card etc. |

It depends on the bank you go with. But there are banks that you don't need a minimum to open an account. I would just go on your own and open one. |

It's not true, you can open a savings account with $1. I'm guessing that you are still at school? If you are, shop around for a student savings account, that way you won't be charged account keeping fees. |
