interpol | Bank Error..? |
There seems to be a glitch in my bank account.
I recently when to take out some money and when I did, instead of taking that money away from my account, it added it on. I did this a few times and I don't know what's happening.
I'm wondering if I will get charged for taking money out that isn't mine because I'm not sure what my balance was to start with.
I didn't take much out so hopefully it won't be a problem but in cases like these, do people have to pay the money back? |

Eventually you will have to pay it back, almost certainly. Actually, they will probably just take it out without telling you about the mistake.
If you spend it you can be held responsible, but you can always argue your point to avoid fees. It's better to just leave the money alone though.
Probably wouldn't hurt to report the error to the bank, either, maybe they will give you a reward or something (ha, not in a million years). |

Yea, they did that with my aunt. she didnt report it but 4 years later they took the money back. Its best to report it sooner, in the long run when they withdraw the mistaken money from your account, you may end up in debt. |

Don't take the money out or spend it or if you do, make sure you can repay it back as soon as the bank discovers it's error. You can be charged for larceny or grand larceny (depending upon the amount) if you do try to get away with it. There are many stories about this out there, Google it. |

Yes, if you don't tell them and they catch it, you will be charged for the money and for any overdraft fees....since it was not your money and since you are expected to balance your own account....you should know how much you are supposed to have and not go over that amount.....look up your statement online, see if it was truly a bank error and then replace the money...and tell them if you'd like...or wait for them to find it. |

Yes, yes, yes...go to the bank and get your account straightened out ASAP and don't take out any more money until then or even put any money in . |

My bank has made of couple of errors before like showing less money than i had or adding money i didn't deposit and every time they gave me the money for a bank error. I have gotten anywhere between $50 to $150 for errors they made. most likely you'll get a letter from your bank stating what happened. jmight want to take some time to balance your account. |

I am sure very soon, they will find it out, and deduct the money that you took out... If not, then be happy, you have nothing to lose |

Yes - save the excess money. The bank will catch its' error and will automatically withdraw the money from your account. If you're overdrawn, they will come after you to get their money.
Spending money that's not yours to begin with, no matter the source, is not ethical. |
