stlno1_heartbreaker | Bank Fraud? |
Not to long ago last year i recieved an e-mail telling me that i needed to update my bank information because it expired and followed with a link to the page. When i clicked on it Mozzilla notified me that the page i was on linked to identity theft/fruad and asked me if i wanted to leave the page. I freaked out at frist but i told my mom and she told me to forward it to my bank in the security department and they would take care of it. My question is how did they know that that was my bank? I havnt sent it to anyone online and especially not my e-mail linked to it! They even sent one more which i also reported, this bothers me that there are people out there that are trying to scam me and steal my money! |

Its spam they know thats its one bank that most people have , so its a great trap for people that will fall into it , never trust an email from anybody , allways check your acounts online weekly if not daily , get away from the big banks and join a credit union ! |

They send it to several random email address hoping that one of the people they send it to will have an acct. at that bank and believe that the email is valid. We get them all the time for various banks, sometimes our bank sometimes banks we have never heard of. |

They just got lucky; they didn't know it was your bank. They'll send them pretending to be pretty much every big bank out there to thousands of email addresses. Some of them just happen to coincide with the bank the recipient actually uses.
And yes there are tons of scammers out there, and lots of schemes, but they can't hurt you if you don't give them any information. Never ever ever trust anything that comes in email that you did not specifically ask for, and never trust anything that prompts you to enter your username and password. If in doubt, delete the email and visit your bank's website directly. |

They didn't know.
This is called phishing, and they call it that because they just send out massive amounts of e-mails addressed to a whole bunch of people from some big national bank. Then, when they meet up with somebody who has an account at that bank, sometimes they are fooled.
I get phishing e-mails sometimes, but I bank at a small, local bank, so it's from something like 'Citibank', they have the logo right, and it sounds like it's from a bank, but I know I don't have any accounts there, so I know it's fraud.
Your bank should not EVER contact you via e-mail - most banks have a policy against that. So if you ever receive anything from a bank (or for that matter from paypal which also doesn't contact you via e-mail), you know it is fraud, and you should report it to the bank or paypal.
Lucky you caught it in time! |

First never click a link in an email for financial information - catalogs, yes, sensitive stuff no.
They could just be sending the same email to a list of purchased email addresses.
I got one from a bank that I haven't banked with in years - over 30. |

your bank would never send you an email to update your information that should be done in person at the bank as for them knowing your bank it was probably a lucky guess |

They didn't know. They just mass email people and hope that they hit one or more that is actually using that bank. You did right by notifying your bank! |

I have gotten these emails from "eBay," "Paypal," "Bank of America," "Chase" and any other entity that is known to have millions of customers. Yes, the folks like me that didn't have an account at BofA realized it was a scam instantly, but they got you to freak out because you did. |

do you holdany store cards or club cards, because these companies share ur details with others. thy basically sell ur details on.... |

Don't worry about it too much. You did good by not responding. When it comes to credit cards and banks, you call THEM, not the other way around. They may have found you through some sort of mailing list that they hacked, or maybe just a lucky guess. :-) |

I get emails from bank of america all the time telling me to update my account info...but i dont have an account with them thats how i know its fake...they send those emails out to thousands of people hoping that at least a few slip up and give them their info...its a good thing mozilla warned you, i also get them from paypal, ebay, chase...just make sure that after you click on the link it takes you to their actual website....and honestly, if you need to update your info they don't email you like that |

I don't think its anything to worry about, if mozzilla blocked the identity theft/fraud i'm pretty certain nothing has been stolen. unless you'd already typed in bank details. if you are still worried ring up your bank and ask for recant account activity. |

just delete them as they come and dont respond to them as youve been doing. theres nothing they can do if you dont give them the info they are missing |

What they were trying to do is 419 scam u its very popular here in the african continent, they usually use the lottery to defraud u of all ur money but since Oprah exposed them they hv been cuming up with new ways to defraud people of their money, so u cant beleive anything they say, any thing that says congrats u hv won the lotto, unless u hv palyed it on paper and hv the winning nos. They ask u for ur banking details, ur address, and security no so they can hack into ur bank acc and steal ur money. U need to be more careful of the emails u respond to and the one u do, Dont always believe everything they write bcoz u might lose all ur moni. U can also try to unsubscribe they usually gv u an option. I also receive those a lot and they try to use diff countries u cant win the lotto if u have entered for the draw. |

First, you can ask the bank staff directly to get more details about those link.
Second, follow my experience, the bank never send any email to ask you about your bank information.
When you received those email, i highly recommend you that you should be careful because those may be the maliculous email to trick you or install the spyware into your computer to get your bank information.
be careful |

It's a game of numbers. I'm going to use my amazing mind reading skills and guess that your bank is either Bank of America, Wells Fargo, or WaMu. All you have to know is that they spammed that same email to millions of other people and out of millions maybe a fifth of those people use the same bank as you. If 1% of those people click on the link and give up their bank information, then the thieves are doing VERY well.
Always remember, DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS THAT LOOK SUSPICIOUS!!! If your "bank" sends you an email that you need to log in, then go directly to their website. Do not click on a link through the email. If the email does not make sense to you, send it to the fraud department of your bank. Computer security is your responsibility, please be careful. |
