in the UK the insolvency service deals with all bankruptcies and IVA's http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/
make sure you get some advice from a solicitor (have a free half hour session) http://www.clsdirect.org.uk/directory/directorySearch?lang=en or from somewhere like citizen's advice bureau http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/ or consumer credit counselling http://www.cccs.co.uk/
there are lots of consequences to going through bankruptcy so you need to make sure it's the right thing in your circumstances.

Go to an attorney who deals in bankruptcy. This is't a wise decison though, I'd try to fix it first. Eventually you'll still have to pay off all your debts. The best thing you can do right now is to get Dave Ramsey's book, "The Total Money Makeover". I know, you probably couldn't afford it or you wouldn't be asking about bankruptcy, but, you can't afford not to buy it. You can get it quite cheap off ebay or half.com or amazon. It's a very enlightening book and has testimonials from tons of people who've been to that point and worked their ways out of debt. This isn't a get-rich scheme at all. It's all pure common sense, something we just do think about. Best of luck to you!!!

District bankruptcy court for the state you live in; call the local court clerk for information as to location.

How? Gather financial records and grab a phone book; look under bankruptcy atty's

you need to contact your local courts and ask for a bankrupcy petition, then you contact the citizens advice bureau, they'll advise you, help you and keep all those creditors off your back(that in itself is a great help). they'll advise you on filling in your forms, then check them for you before you go to court, and make sure you have all the details correctly written because any mistakes and you'll have to get new forms...and start again. hope this helps xx

Generally you file through an attorney and, of course, fees apply.

Find a local bankruptcy lawyer. It is far too complicated a process to do yourself.

Go to your local CAB and try to sort out a different way of dealing with your troubles , Bankruptcy is a very hard road to follow

Search Google " Apply Consider Bankruptcy "
Attorneys and Court System is where it is done.
Go to the www.irs.gov and search keyword bankruptcy.
Call Debt consolidator (anyone of them) and get considerations as to pros/cons.

You really don't want that scar on your financial history..it will impact your ability to get corp jobs for upto 8years. Among your ability to buy a home or finance a car etc.

You will pay more penalties with that mark on your records than if you paid your way out of bankruptcy. With higher interest rates etc.

Good luck which ever way you go.

Bankruptcy should be a very last resort, take no notice of anybody offering a loan to sort yourself out, they're just vultures picking at the bones. If you're in the UK go to the citizens advice bureau in the first instance, they will help you with IVA's and the like. DO NOT go anywhere that takes a fee for their services.

there are bankruptcy lawyers that will help you. there's alot paperwork for it and i wouldn't suggest doing it on your own. like a divorce, you can do it on your own but it will take a lot of time to get it right and get it processed. good luck!
