I have people in the bankruptcy business and if you have no collateral your given 1year. if your own house its taken from that or business again as before.we've become americanised!!

Its not easier they have changed the rules because it was too hard and have made it more manageable for people.
Not easy though, for people who constantly turn to bankruptcy they have made more provision to punish. |

It has gotten easier over the years 6 years ago my husband had to go bankrupt and it was for 3 years we had trouble renting somewhere to live we had to account for every penny even had to ask for extra money for shoes or work clothes and other extra things that weren't thought to be essential, my husbands mate has just gone bankrupt it's only for 6 months and his debts are far more than my husbands where, dont know why it's getting easier you can spend and spend and then just go bankrupt not pay a penny back whats the world coming to |

You live with the consequences for many years after, so I would not say it was easy. |

It's not.
Apart from the difficulties afterwards - not being able to get credit, being barred from being a company director - and the difficulties during - eg having to sell your home, if you own it - it's hard to declare yourself bankrupt.
The last I heard (over 10 years ago), it cost over £100 to declare yourself bankrupt. How are you supposed to afford that? The idea is you don't have any money... |
