Bills; How much do you pay?
I'd like to get a rough idea of how much me & my boyfriend would be spending on bills each month if we moved in together.

I know it's probably different for everyone and it depends how much gas/electricity you use etc... but I really haven't got a clue.

Also, does anyone use metres instead? And is it cheaper?

So if there's only 2 of you and you live in the UK (or North East England), it would be a real help if you could tell me what you spend each month.

Council tax (depends what band you are in)
House/contents insurance
TV liecense
Car insurance

Me and my husband, (no kids) rent a council house (£75 per week rent) in South Cambs. We pay around £110 per month council tax, £10 per week electricity, £50 per month phone & broadband, £30 per month oil (for heating, we don't have gas), £28 per month water rates.
We have an electricity meter which is more expensive but I like the fact that I prepay and don't have another bill to pay each month.
On top of that we pay household contents insurance of around £10 per month and also SKY subscription of £40 per month. And then, of course there is the weekly food bill!!

theres only 2 in our house hold and it costs us £300 per month to live.. this includes shopping, tv license, land line, and a contract phone, gas and elecrtic (on quaterly billing its much cheeper) 2 catalogue payments, and water, etc...

I live in Edinburgh and pay,

Rent: £525
Council tax: £136
Electricity: £60
Cable/Broadband/Phone: £30
All per month (2 sharing, not a couple)
TV is £135 per year

It varies all over the city, but it's reasonable for quieter area where i stay.

Meters are easier to use & you can keep track of what you're spending, but it works out a fair bit more expensive.

I lived with my husband (no kids) in Hull last year, and spent around £250 per year on water, £70 electricity per quarter and £100 gas per quarter. Council tax (band A. 2 bed terrace) was £98 per month. Rent was £300. The gas/elec/water were bill meters, not token or card meters. Token and card meters are more expensive (as in price per watt used) and have the incovenience of topping them up. However if you have trouble budgetting them token/key/card meters may be ideal for you. Good luck :o>

We pay about £1000 all in - however we have a morgage and are electric only which is cheaper

beetlebug
Shop around for the best deals on combined gas, elec and some now include telephone.
Try and find an agent for Utilities Warehouse...guaranteed the cheapest, but can only be signed up by an agent.
I've just transferred to a water meter but DO NOT use the pre paid gas and electricity as it will cost you more. Pay by direct debit for best rates.
