Just make sure you know what the check number is so you can place a stop payment on it, if your wallet is stolen. Also if that happens (which I hope it never does), check your account often and dispute any unauthorized transactions to your financial institution immediately. |

Get an Visa ATM Debit Card. It's better than a check and there is nothing on it except your name. A check has a lot of information on it. Home address, bank routing number and account number. With that information a person could do a lot of damage. I haven't written a check in years. Bill paying can be done electronically. |

I'm almost shocked, and really shocked by Kelly's answer. Your check has your bank account # on it. There was a lady who was finally nabb'd on a 20/20 special for stealing # from people's accounts. She was a retail worker who would start by depositing money (into accounts that she had gotten from customer's checks) and then she would withdraw money after the tellers saw her making deposits into "her" account. Identity theft is becoming a very expensive problem. I think your nuts to keep a blank check with you. |

I wouldn't say its the safest way.. ever thought of carrying a credit card for emergencies... say one with fraud protection? Even some check cards have it. |
