You should sit him down and have a serious conversation about why he is doing it, and work on solutions to stop the excess spending and start clearing the debt. That may mean out side help. If he does not want to help himself, then that leaves you with no choice.cause you cant afford for him to bring you down.

Go find someone who is just like him in all the ways you find him attractive, but who has some common sense, too!

You can't change people who aren't interested in changing, you can only change you...

Yes he will be in trouble he will be reported to the credit bureau His credit will be so messed up, he will wind up not only paying what he owes on the credit cards but the interest as well I hate to say this sweet heart but your boyfriend is an IDIOT Have you ever heard of the term "A fool and his money are soon parting"? well your BF is a FOOL

If he maxes out his card, his monthly payment will increase, especially down the road as interest rates rise, and it will become a burden. If he falls behind in his payments, it will affect his credit history. With a bad credit score, he will have a hard time getting a new loan or even getting into a new apartment lease. Many employers check credit files when screening job candidates. Thanks to your vigilance, he may even lose his girl friend.

The way he can climb out of this is as follows: pay more than the minimum required each month. Discipline himself and stop buying items he doesn't need. If it helps, he can cut and throw away the card to prevent himself from using the card again.

He is in trouble. Keep YOUR finances totally separate from his and do NOT cosign or coborrow for him.

Nyla
You aren't in trouble. He is. He is messing up his credit rating which is important if he ever wants to purchase a house or car. He will get annoying phone calls at home to try to guilt him into paying off the cards, and eventually have go to court. Fun times.

Be aware that if you marry this guy, his credit problems become yours as well. Count on never being able to buy anything on credit (like a home or car) for 7 or more years.

Bankruptcy can stay on your record for even longer.

Financially irresponsible people may not change, as buying things to feel better about yourself can be somewhat like an addiction. If you do not want to deal with this/have to get a 2nd job to support his irresponsibility, I would break up with him.

It's going to catch up with him because the credit card companies will hunt him down like a dog if they don't get their money. They can get a judgment against him from the court (very serious) and possibly even garnishee his wages. And he can forget about ever getting a mortgage or car loan with that kind of credit history.

This guy is a loser. What he is doing is stealing and you'd be better off without him.

You are not in trouble, but he is. Not paying ones debts cannot land you in jail. But fraud can. Charging up a credit card that you have no intention to pay back can be determined to be fraud. Your boyfriend has serious issues which are not impacting you now, but if your relationship gets more serious he will bring you down with him. I suggest you run away.

Goonhilda
Your boyfriend is bad news. A man who can't manage his money is not mature enough to be a long term relationship prospect. This is a MASSIVE warning sign that you should either get out of the relationship, or he should get some help.

Some people should not have credit cards.

If you want to stay with him, I suggest you take his credit cards, cut them up, and bury the pieces. He is unable to control himself, and will only cause himself further harm by spending how he does. THis will in turn harm you. It will harm your combined chances of ever getting a home loan, of getting finance for things, and if you do want to stay together, and one day want to borrow money yourself, his credit history (which by now will be ruined) will make the banks perceive YOU as a bad risk. I don't think you should stay with him. This is a relationship deal breaker. Either he becomes a man, takes control of his behaviour, and seeks support (either from you, or from a professional outside your relationship) to change his ways, or you wash your hands of him.

I know it sounds harsh, but you can't change him. He needs to change himself. You need to accept that.

In the interim, do not sign anything jointly, and make sure you are not both on the utility bills. That will draw you into this mess, whether you like it or not. You can still pay for the electricity, just make sure your name and his name are not on the same bill or account.

Best wishes.

MARIOOO!![SUSPENDED]
take the card away, take everything he hasn't used back, he's just gonna have to figure the rest out for himself
