jusbizness403 | Budgeting Money? |
Ok I need a plan to help manage my money. I get paid every week and have very few bills. Just my utilities and still I can save no money. I know I spend alot on eating out but I don't have time to cook. I usually only eat 1 meal a day. I work 3rd shift. Im never at home so it makes no sense for me to cook at home. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to save and manage money better. The sensible answer is not to spend any but I really don'y buy anything other than food and gas. |

I spend a few hours on Sunday cooking. It's SO much cheaper! I prepare everything so it's ready to go. It saves a bundle. The hardest part about budgeting is sticking to it! Just promise yourself you won't be lazy.
Buy 7 chicken breasts, some lemon (or whatever you like to marinade in like orange or a sauce), some mushrooms, some bell peppers and other veggies you like such as broccoli or whatever.
Get some big zip lock baggies, dump a chicken breast, veggies, sauce, etc in each bag and toss it in the fridge. When you get home, grab a baggie, some tin foil. Dump the baggie onto the tin foil and make a packet. Toss it in the oven at 350 degrees and go take a shower or whatever. 1/2 hour later you've got yourself a healthy meal that's filling and won't make you feel guilty. Ta Da! Instant master chef, right? lol. Try to eat some heavy cerial before you leave the house for work. That'll help with energy. By heavy, I mean something high in fiber.
Another thing you can do is pay your savings account like it's a bill. I have my bank automatically tranfer $100 a month to my savings account. I never, ever look at my savings account. I pretend it's a bill. Next thing I know I actually look at a statement, there's $1500 in there! Hooray! |

A good plan is:
50% of your money goes to pay bills
10% to tithing
10% for education
10% to pay off old debt
10% savings
10% to spend on yourself
Now you can use that formula. You can also adjust the numbers accordingly to how much of your income you might require to pay your bills.
You may want to make up a monthly plan and lay it out. For instance, start with X amount of dollars take home pay. Write a list of your expenses (make sure to be accurate, better to over estimate than under estimate) and deduct those from your income.
Your expenses should include rent, utlities, gas, meals, insurance, etc.
Write it all down on a sheet of paper. After which, you can trasnsfer it to a calendar if you need to have your bills written on what days to pay.
I hope this helps you some. |

I would suggest for one month you keep every receipt (or write it down if they don't give you one) for everything you buy no matter how small. Also, write down exactly how much money you brought in for the month. Then, sit down and put expenses into categories such as gas, entertainment, necessary monthly bills (phone, utilities, rent), unnecessary monthly bills (Internet on cell phone, Netflix...). By the end of this process you will see exactly how much you are spending on everything. You might find that you are spending more than you thought on something and you may also find some places you can cut your spending down like maybe shopping less or using cutting utility costs. You can also download some worksheets for Excel at the site listed below. Good luck. |

You do the same thing I do, work 3rd shift, never home but you (I used to) do spend it all on food on your off days. Go to walmart or your local grocery store and pick up some pre-made sandwiches or anything that has already been made at the deli, they are about $1 each over here, as for drinks always go generic, who cares what you drink? It serves its purpose. As for saving money, this is what I do, buy a box with a slit at the top, and buy a lock, throw any money extra in it and forbid yourself not to open it, the big suprise is when you wait a while and open it. Start off by throwing $30 in it and seeing if you can make it through the week without it, then next time go bigger. |

As far as eating out goes, you will save a ton if you drink water instead of soda and order a meal that is a little bit larger, but maybe costs a few dollars more... Eat half and save the other half for the next day. Your $12 meal just turned into 2 $6 meals.
I know that you don't have a lot of time to cook, so why not consider buying frozen meals. In your situation, I would recommend that you splurge on the meals that are slightly more expensive, but are really tasty, otherwise you may end up buying them and letting them sit there for the next 2 years.
Fruit has been a lifesaver for me. I eat a ton of fruit all of the time and I am rarely hungry for traditional meals (And I feel great & I've lost a few pounds).
Grocery Shopping has helped me keep from shopping for clothes and other misc. items. I love walking up and down the grocery isles looking at the different items. :)
Enough with food... how can you save money? Set up your direct deposit so that your paycheck goes into your savings rather then your checking account. What do you realistically need to spend each week? $40 on gas? $50 on food (being generous) $35 for fun? Transfer the amount that you are giving yourself for that week back into your checking account and keep the rest in your savings. Lets say you make $350 a week... you will be saving $225 a week... that's $900 a month!!! WOW! Gosh, I wish that I had your bills :)
Save while you still can. Once you end up with a car payment, credit cards, a mortgage, etc... it's even more difficult to save any money at all.
Also, make sure that you aren't paying any misc. fees for your checking account or on credit cards. This could also save you another $50+ each month. |

One thing that helps me is having money automatically transferred to my savings account when I get paid. Even $5 or $10 saved helps and if you get rid of it from your checking right away you may forget it's there. |

Well, here is my suggestion. First, you will need to create a detailed list of how you spend your money. Rank everything by the category of necessity or luxury. Evaluate the list and determine areas where you can cut back on. Can you cook your meals on the weekends? If so, you might want to seriously do it. Prepare your meals on Saturday or Sunday, enough for the whole week. You will find that you can decrease your meal cost by 1/2 or even more.
Look at alternative ways of commuting to work. If you drive your own vehicle you are looking at spending money on gas and maintenance of said vehicle. If you live close to work consider riding a bike if you have one, or using mass transit. You can pinch a couple of pennies this way.
Good luck. |

The first thing you need to do is keep a daily journal of all of your receipts. Find out where your money is REALLY going. And be honest or this won't work for you. Then you analyze your journal to see where you can cut back and where you can save money. There are also a lot of good tools online. Check out http://www.consumercredit.com/budget-sheet.htm. There is a household budget worksheet you can download that will help you determine where your money is going and where it needs to go. Good luck! |

Cook at home and take to work will save you lots. Also buying drinks and taking them with you saves big.
24 bottles of water in case = 4 or 5 bucks.
24 bottles of water bought individualy, 24 x 1.39=$33.36
Almost 30 bucks saved right there.
A bag of rice is 3 bucks and a single person could it 8 - 10 meals off of it. A bag of chicken is 6 bucks and you clould get 8 - 10 meals from that.
So 9 meals for 9 bucks is a buck a meal when made at home.
9 meals eaten out at an average of 6 bucks a meal is 54 bucks.
There is another 45 dollars you could save in 9 meals alone.
Make a running total of how much you spend on food and drinks for 1 week and times it by 4 and that will show ou how much you spend in a month. Now try to see how you could plan better and save money.
I know you can do this if you want to save money bad enough.
Good Luck. |

Have your payroll put on automatic deposit, also have a percentage of each paycheck put into your savings account. If you do not have a savings account, get one! Have it were you have to have your Mom or Dad sign along with you to get any money out of the savings. If your Mom or Dad doesn't work out, get a close friend to help out. Two signatures at the same time to withdraw...also, chk on your company, see if they have a profit sharing, if they do, join that! They usually deposit the same amount that you do up to 3% of your weekly wage, inotherwords, every dollar you put in, they put in a dollar also, it is like free money. Let it grow and when you retire, you will be comfortable. Good luck, and remember Mcdonalds have a great double cheese for 99 cents! |

It's like a diet... If you buckle down too hard, you'll fail. Ease into saving while still spending. Spend all you want. However, you have to pay yourself first. From every single pay check 20% goes to you immediately!! Pay bills with the rest and blow what's left. That 20% in a Savings account, Mutual fund or something similar will add up fast and you'll never miss it. I promise. You'll be shocked and excited and start saving in other areas. It's fun. |

Wright down every thing you spend -every dime- for at least a week. What and why. You will be surprised how much we can waste a buck at a time.
Review to see where that waste is and how much. Then you can make the changes you need to make. |
