Can I ask for a raise?
When the minimum wage increases can I ask for a cost of living increase of salary if I make more than the new state mandated minimum wage rate.

red
you have the entitlement to ask for a raise at any time in your employment. doesn't mean you will be entitled, or get it.

georgiabanksmartin
You can always ask if your work performance is good but they don't have to grant the request.

beanco
No harm in asking, you may get your P45 though ha ha

MANC & PROUD
Put it in writing to your manager listing why you think you deserve a raise.

Shari
Never hurts to ask. You just might get lucky and get one. On the other hand, they might say no. But you will never know if you don't ask.

well thts it......
depends on the guide lines that every company follows still i think it might be a tough dice

It depends on what ur employer is like. are they mean tight fisted or do they like to reward there staff - for helping the company to make more money.

I have been at my company for 3 years in May i received a payrise in march of 06 - i couldnt believe it i was given an extra .50p an hour. When i had originally started - in the december others were getting increases - my boss said he would wait untill i had settled in a bit more- i was fine with this
Then the second year he said that because i had a taken a couple day off extra in over 2months -cause kids were sick he didnt feel i deserved it . I was mad - but he would definately increase in feb. I had to hound him then when he told me via email .50p i was shocked. I spoke to him also explaining that he had originally said that after six months i would have got an increase to the salary that i wanted before i had started - he agreed. The crazy thing was that i thought he would also give the .50 raise = £1 extra but nope he just gave the 50. My boss is quiet flexable and i can swap hours - if something comes up for the kids etc. But when it comes to money -its not happening- The company profits have increased massively over the last year and half . ITS a small company but my boss can take at least 6 overseas hols year .......

Check for your company's policies.

You can ask for a raise anytime. You may get it if you prove that you're deserving of it. But if you go in and ask for a raise just because the minimum wage went up, I wouldn't hold your breath. Most employers pay more than minimum wage anyway, so it's increase is more of a nod in agreement with them from the government that minimum wage is too low. As such, your employer probably already feels that they're paying you a fair wage. Hence, you need to prove them wrong and justify why you're deserving of a raise.

Sam
you can ask...in a just world they would say yes

Frank Castle
Yes. (If you want to get fired)
