Can I buy gold bars and sell them later?
I'm not concerned about profit I'm just concerned about people snooping about my assets this year and I do think that's gonna happen quite a bit this year. So I was thinking hold on to the gold bars and then liquidate them in 2009. Thanks for your advice
Additional Details
If the bars lose 2% I don't give a sh*t the issue is the snooping. Thanks

Precious metals is always a good investment or asset to convert your savings into, becuase paper money is only as valuable as the country that issues it. If you buy gold bars you should keep them in safety deposit boxes of best banks in the world.

You should be aware that hiding your assets can be illegal and get you sent to jail. It all depends on what kind of "snooping" you expect. If you are trying to hide assets from the IRS or from bankruptcy proceedings, you should immediately rethink your ideas. You would be committing fraud and no one will have any sympathy for you if you're caught.

To answer your question, yes you can buy gold and expect to sell it later at whatever the market price is at the time. You won't get full retail because the dealer needs to make a profit. Be forewarned that the price of gold can be extremely volatile. Based on performance during the last 30 years, you might make a large profit, or you might lose 50-75% of your investment. It all depends on how the market performs during your holding period.

You will still have to account where the money went to. There's always a paper trail. Sounds like this is an ex or the IRS or whatever. If you're trying to hide money and you had already deposited it into the bank at one time or another, then there will be a paper trail.

Why not, if you have enough money for 1 or 2. Or is 2 too much?

if you're just converting one asset (whatever you have now) into another asset (gold) I'm not sure how you think that will make a difference in terms of someone being able to 'snoop' into your financial situation.

Kaiser Nicholas
umm, i guess you can but if someones snooping around your assets you should go sort them out

Stacy R
I dont think so

Our economy is changing and I woul; suggest u buy them...Gold is worth morethan current currency. (Just a thought Canada is .98 to our dollar...so that means our dollar is worth less than them...if u sell a Canadian gold, or anyone you can take them for a full price...naw mean?)
