Can I cash it in?!?
Hi,

When I was in my last job I was given my payment in cheques. However I forgot to cash in one of those cheques due to a berevement going on at same time and all that. It just slipped my mind.

I have now found the cheque - dated 3/5/07 and wanted to know if I am able to cash it in.

It is for 148.08 and I do need the money and it is rightly mine.

Can I do this?!

Cheques are valid for 6 months. If the bank wont except it, write to the person whom issued the cheque to re-issue it for you. They will be able to check with their bank to prove this has not gone through their account.

Yep a 6 month dead line is defo right, so get down the bank and cash it in :) x

I think cheques are valid for 6 months. Ask your bank.

old know all
Yes, but be quick. They go stale after 6 months.

Hot Momma ;)
Cheques last for 90 days so I think unfortunetly you may have missed out on this - but its worth a try going to your bank and asking. If not, ask your ex employer to reissue it, as they will see you never paid it in the first time around, so it should not be an issue.

Go to the bank and see what you can do.

Call the company who issued the check and ask for the finance/fiscal department. Explain the situation to them and ask if the check will go thru their bank or if they will need to reissue the check to you.

Your bank will NOT be the deciding factor. Your bank will most likely allow you to deposit the check, but if the check is refused at the issuing bank, you will be charged an NSF fee for depositing a check that is no good.

That's why it is better to check with the issuer of the check to find out their policies.

I used to work in the fiscal dept. of a small non-profit company.

most checks are good for one year after the issue

Yes

Banks will accept cheques for 6 months after the date of issue.

3/5/07 is UK style not US style isn't it ?

Even if it's US style you may still be OK. The 6 month rule is not legally binding on the bank. They can use their discretion.

If all else fails then ask whoever issued the cheque for a replacement.
