This is 100% illegal. By law, to deposit a check written to you into an account your name must be listed on that account. Banking rules and regulations changed after Sept. 11, 2001 to help prevent funding for terrorists. I know banks still do this and I'll even be honest and tell you that I did it less than 10 minutes ago, but it is still illegal. |

It depends on the bank. My Fiance tried to deposit his money into his brother in law's account and they would not let him. They will sometimes let me deposit cash into the account however. I would not write anyone's account number on the back of a check. That account number is then out in the open. Write it on the deposit slip instead, or talk to one of the bank people about what you are trying to do when you get there. If all else fails you could either send the person a check or borrow their debit card long enough to deposit it into an ATM. |

Yes you can. You'll have to go to the person's bank though. My father used to do this with the cheques I received because I didn't live at home (I still don't). |

Many banks today do NOT accept third party checks, which is what this is called. In the case of checks being made out to the name of a minor (your kid gets a check for his birthday) most banks will make an exception, but generally the rule is no.
If you want to be sure your friend gets the money without a hassle cash the check yourself and deposit cash instead. I've worked in banks, that is how I know this. |

Pretty sure you can. My husband deposits checks into my account all the time, and the account is in my name only. If not, you can sign the back and write "pay to the order of" John Doe or whoever you're giving the money to. |

Oh, Hi New Moon Daughter

You have to sign it over to them and be present when they deposit it. |

Why don't you just deposit it in your account and write them a personal check? That is easier and cleaner. |

Depends on the bank. My bank requires that the depositor be the account holder, unless the deposit is made with a preprinted deposit slip( from the back of the checkbook).
If you deposit it in the night deposit then it won't matter. |

Sure, you'll probably need the person's full name and address and render your's too withh relevant documents to confirm your verite ... then you simply sign the check thus endorsing it. |

Yes, do what you said, and the other person needs to sign the back of the check too. |

I used to do this all the time with my rent check (the landlord was family). It helps to have one of the other person's pre-printed deposit slips, but you can fill out your own with the account number. |

If you have their account number you can.
You can't use the ATM, you will need to talk to the teller.
It has happened to me before. My ex was able to deposit money into my account. |

It depends on the bank but most likely no. Depositing a check is not really much different than cashing it. If the check should be returned it will need to be debited from the account. It is also possible the teller will not even notice that it isn't your account. |

Yes, just endorse the check on the back by saying
"pay to the order of XXXX" and sign your name |

My brother's name is keith and my name is angel, we have the same last name. keith has no checkings account and doesn't want to pay a cash checking fee at that kind of establishment. Can he sign it, I sign it under his signature, and deposit it in my checking account? Is that doable? |
