Can I open a new checking account even If I have one that has a outstanding bill?
OK I had a checking account at National City for a while but after a incident that got the account over drawn and it ended up getting closed. At first I didn't think it was big deal as I was able to open a new checking account at a credit union where I had a saving account but when I tried to set one up at Chase, they said they couldn't due to fact that National City needed to be dealt with. Now I've heard there are some places that will look past this (Wal-Mart supposedly has some guilt-free checking account) , but I dont't wanna go anyplace to shady or nothing.

Woodforest is the Walmart Bank..they're reputable...we use them. There's a $9.95 mthly fee for 2nd Chance Checking...or $5.95/mth if you start direct deposit.

Most banks subscribe to a service that notifies them about deadbeat accounts. You'll have to go from bank to bank until you find one that doesn't use that service. In my community there are around 25 different banks. Only one of them isn't a subscriber. Look for a local bank instead of a chain.

They are looking up Chex Systems. Banks report and kinda have a hand shake agreement saying if they owe us money dont let them open an account and we wont let them open an account here if they owe you money.

Not all banks care about Chex Systems. US bank has a second chance program where you can open an account anyway. You might not get checks but you will get a visa debt card. I would just keep checking around some bank will open your account. WAMU washington mutual is pretty good at giving you a checking account as long as you dont owe them the money, then you just pay it back. (I use to work for them).

Just keep checking you should find somebody, a manager can override what they want. I would call around first and ask about second chance checking. It shouldnt be too difficult but could take a few phone calls.

There is a site that has a free listing of actual banks that do not use ChexSystems and you may be able to get a bank account that way.

I make a decent salary..had direct deposit for 3 yrs with Bank of America, and when I asked for a checking account..They turned me down for some old past (resolved) credit stuff.[and No bad checks]. So it's defiantly getting harder.

Good Luck...BTW,I think credit unions are the best.

gpatrick900
Here what I know from opening my own checking account.

Some banks check credit for checking and check/debit card.
Some banks check credit for check/debit cards.
Other banks check either telecheck or check systems.

If the problem at national city was not your fault. Write a letter to National City and check system or telecheck depending on which agecy National City uses and dispute the problem.

The only one I can think of that you may still stand a good chance of a checking account is a Credit Union in your area.
They're quite lenient in cases like yours...I had one just like yours and three months later the only bank that would allow me to reestablish any kind of credit was my local credit union

I have an idea. Why don't you deal with the money you owe National City? This will follow you around if you don't. There is a record that will never go away and there will come a time when you will wish you had cleared it up.

Mr. God
If you have money to open up a checking account, why not just use that money to pay what you owe and then you can get a checking account anywhere. That would be the right and responsible thing to do. Dont run away from your bills, take care of them.
Now with that said, I dont know of any places that would allow you to open up one when you owe another. They might exist but I have never heard of them

Nope. I think they run a credit check on you before you open a checking account.

Or some kind of CHECKING ACCOUNT CHECK..

If you've had issues and it's been reported you could be denied

Heres a crazy idea....why dont you just PAY YOUR BILLS and stop over checking your accounts by writing checks that you DONT have the money to cover! So why not just go and pay what you owe at the National City place and then you will have a good standing no matter where u go.

Mimi D
It's called CHEX Systems. Every bank runs it before they open a account. If you are on it due to a other bank closing you out because of overdrafts or account abuse or fraud you will be reported. this report will follow you for 5 years. Then it will drop off. If you decide to pay the monies owed you will still be on the report, but it will say that the monies owed are paid in full. Some banks may open a account for you. But most will not.

Ducci
Probably not. They will run your social through ChexSystems and see that you have a balance and deny you

Housewife Honey
Okay....there is this thing called "Check Systems". When you overdraw your account and don't make good on it the bank reports you to them. It's kind of like a banking "credit report". The only way to get around it is to find a bank that usually doesn't run a check through the system....which is hard because most of them do. You will have better luck if you go in to open one up during a busy time of day and if you manage to get a younger teller to wait on you. When it's busy some of the younger workers wont bother to take the time to run the check....they don't want to get in trouble for holding things up or they're just lazy. In the meantime I would suggest using money orders to pay your bills and getting a prepaid visa card that you can reload for point of sale purchases. Best of luck to you sweety!!!

Kisses!!!
