So she said, well Ill just take the money out of your bank account which is under my name!!! And I was wondering if she can do that or what. Yes, your mother can do that. Since you're a minor, she can control all your accounts and funds.

You're a minor. You're mother is listed on the account. Legally, she has as much right to the money in the account as you do. Actually more right to it, since you are a minor and cannot withdraw the money without her.

Be glad you have a room to clean..........You could be a in China without a home at all. It seams like a terrible imposition, but life just gets harder as you get older. If you want your mom to do the job of a maid, you should pay her for it...........but look on the bright side! 30 years from now you can tell your kids "If you don't clean your room, I'm going to take your money" then you'll see that its an important lesson your teaching them.

Negotiate with your mom. Explain to your her that you can't pay her simply because if you are not responsible enough to clean your room, then you're certainly not responsible enough to handle money either. Invite her to empty your room out and leave a pillow, a blanket, a clock and the clothes you're wearing. After that, I bet you won't find it a problem to clean up after yourself anymore.
Instead of asking if your mom could do this to you, ask if you could do this to your mom. She feeds and houses you and set up a bank account for you. It's time you show her a little respect as well as respecting your own space as well.
Take the 5 minutes it takes at the end of the night to pick stuff up off the floor, throw out your trash and tidy stuff up and you will not be stuck in this situation ever again. Plus, your room will never be a mess, you will be able to find your stuff easily, you will feel a lot better about yourself, and make your mom proud. Make it something you have to do each night, just like brushing your teeth and you won't have a problem. |

That is pretty rude of her to do - what's next, will she charge you for food too? (Is the cleaning getting done by her then? You don't say that part)
I'm a mom and I'd never take my kids' money. If he wants to live in a pigsty, I would shut the door. But at 12 years old, you are just starting to accept responsibility. She shouldn't do that to you. WHAT YOU COULD DO is
first - clean your room (kill her with kindness)
second - start charging HER for other jobs that you do, like taking out the garbage, shoveling the sidewalks, cutting the grass. The give and take has to go both ways - if she's going to charge you, she also should be willing to PAY you. |
