Dean M | Can a company take money from my account without written authorization? |
|

there is only one way a company can have money taken from your account and thats if you owe them a large debt(usualy a secured one) and it will have had to go to court whether you were there or not who can then make the attatchment, but in a normal circumstance then no they cannot , and if i were you ask the bank to reclaim it back as you have so many days to which you can do that. |

It depends exactly what you mean by "without written authorisation". No bank can just take money because they fancy doing so. However I have never heard of a bank being that stupid. It is perfectly legal for them to transfer money to a third party (including themselves) if you have given a general permission to take money as payment for for something. I think that I really need a bit more background information to give you a better answer. |

If what you have told us is the entire story, then no. If you have agreed for a direct debit to be setup, then they can take money without authorisation each time.
If it is the bank, then it can fine you and automatically take it from your account, although you can appeal. |

your account can only be accessed without your direct permission by a court, or gov Dept. with a court order.
make sure you have not agreed to a direct debit somewhere along the way by mistake |

yes they can if: you used your debit card to pay your bill once, direct TV did just that to me about April we got direct TV at our camp site by august we still haven't got the DVD player as promised in the contract so i didn't pay the bill , they charged me $204 and some change for early disconnect fee , i didn't disconnect it they did, now it cost me $34.00 NSF and $114.00 that was in my account, total $358.00 out of my account and still i don't get the DVD player cause it,{the service} was disconnected so beware of ? read and ask if they can if you use your card to pay the bill |

Yes, they can.
AOL is taking cash from me each month, even though I changed my card details and told them to stop.
THEY are CRIMINALS and they just take, take, take !
and take more and more !
Answer: NEVER give out your details and keep your cash in a Swiss bank or under the bed.
BANKS are not to be trusted (unless in Switzerland). |

If you have direct deposit of your pay, the company making the deposits can take money out without written authorization (this is so they can rectify any "mistakes" they might make). I believe the same is true of any business you have given authorization to for direct deposit of debit. You permitted it when you signed up... |

No i don't think so, not unless you have signed something |

if they have won a legal judgement against you , yes. |

no, not unless you set up a direct debit with them, allowing them to do so. |
|

ebosgramma

Of course they can. Any time you make a payment over the telephone technically there is no "written authorization" for them to deduct the money from your bank account. |
