Can he, sure anyone can call whomever they want to. In this case he is probably trying to find out when you are home so he can contact you. Probably not exactly the most ethical thing to do but not illegal as long as he doesn't talk about your case with the neighbor. |

All a debt collector can do is leave his/her name and call back number. You can write a letter to the president of the company that is calling your neighbors and ask him/her to stop the calls. Send 1 regular 1 certified and keep a copy. |

In some cases yes, laws are different from state to state but any number you put on an application is usually fair game...and no it is not illegal to call employers whoever sd that...i work in a collection agency and we are allowed to call any number given on the contract including i call places of employment all day, the only exception is if we are told not to call there anymore...but after months of not answering your phone any number in the records of the account is open for calling again in a skip trace. The best thing to do is answer your phone and not be rude to the rep this only makes the rep upset with you and not wanna hold the calls...as long as you talk to them every once in a while it shouldnt escalade above home phone number |

of course -- i can call your neighbors -- should he call your neighbors no -- but to stop him all you have to do is pay your bills and that should not be hard because you do owe him the money for the goods/services -- after all you did not use a gun to take them!!! |

Laws vary by state. It's not illegal that I'm aware of unless you put a stop to it. You can limit the agency to mail only but that also limits their willingness to work with you. Be nice but firm. If that doesn't work, be ugly and firm. You do have legal recourse if they persist. Bottom line is you owe. Make a plan and stick to it. Call them every other day just to repeat what you said previously. It screws up their system and they usually stop calling anybody. For more, go to daveramsey.com. |
