Can a medical office/ hospital bill me after 2 1/2 years?

If the services were rendered then I suppose they can. I'm surprised however that they never passed that over to a debt collection agency. Perhaps the fees are a mistake of some sort if you were never notified of the charges previously. I would check the statute of limitations for your state.

Yes they can. I work in med billing. Sometimes they can take a long time in dealing with your insurance. Sometimes your insurance can take their previous payment back for one reason or another. Also, the facility can go back and audit your chart and find charges they missed. They can and will bill you. You are still responsible. Sorry.

I believe so. I had received treatment at an ER back in 2000 which was denied by my insurance company. Since my insurance wasn't covering any of it, I got all the bills. I kept appealing the insurance co but kept receiving bills for at least 3 years. It eventually went to collections and I ended up having to pay it. Now I have that on my credit report, which I think is totallly unfair. So my recommendation is to take care of any medical bill that is validly your responsibility. Sometimes if you call the doctor's office you can make payment arrangements.

Any payment due is supposed to be collected prior to discharge. If discharged agrreing to make the payment within a stipulated period,it's ok. Else no claim can be preferred by the hospital later.

Yes they can, they can go after you until they get the money or write it off, but it takes a while for medical claims to get written off.

I guess they can. Sometimes insurance companies make mistakes, etc. and the charges show up later. I believe you are still liable. You could always negotiate though.

gentle giant
I don't know why not. If you received services and you have not paid yet.

They sure can and will. it doesn't seem fair but i've seen it done many times.

themogleclan@sbcglobal.net
I believe they only have one year from date of service unless they were actively working with your insurance company to resolve your bill. But I could be wrong. For your first billing that is.
