I need a bank account, but due to a fire a year ago, my birth cert. was lost. I need a bank account immediatly, and was wondering if a parent/guardian could create one in my name.

Yes. You can get another birth certificate but it takes some time because you have to have some other form of Id and they have to send the new birth certificate to you. |

A minor can have a bank account in their name as long as their parent/guardian is also on the account. Now, it would be up to the bank policies but the financial institution that I work for allows the parent to open up the account with the minor primary and the parent secondary for any minor up to the age of 15 without the minor needing an ID. This account would be a savings only. If the minor is 16 years old or wants a checking account then they would need a State ID. We never require the birth certificate to open the account, only the ss card and ID if 16 & older. |

When you finally do get the account, get a safe deposit box to put things like your birth certificate in (once you get a replacement) so you won't have this problem again. |
