Can anyone tell me what to do as i'm in debt,on debt management,on benefits as i cant work due to physical and
mental illness.I have 17 creditors i'm trying to pay,as i have a spending addiction, but its a struggle on income support, and i dont know what to do as i have a large BT phone bill and Sky Digital bill that i cant afford to pay,as i've got my other household bills to keep on top of,and even thats a struggle,as i dont get very much each week on income support.Does anyone know what to do if you cant afford to pay your BT and Sky tv bill.I have now put in the 30day notice needed to cancel Sky,as its a luxury really, and a lot of it is just all repeats that you've already seen,so its one thing that can be done without.I don't know whether Virgin Media is any better for tv,but we cant afford it anyway,so it dont apply to us.Also has anyone experiance of what the citizens bureau are like in debt problems, and debt management, and bankcrutcy.Practicually almost all my income support is been used up by my debt management.I'm paying them most of my benefits, then i pay bill instalments, nowt for food

The citizens advice bureau would be the best place to start getting help.

Yes go to your citizens advice bureau immediately (alhtough will probably have to wait until after New Year now). They will help you sort out all your debt problems - and for free! Have a look at the web site below.

I appreciate you may be at home alot due to your illness but spending all your money on Sky/Virgin media/TV packages isn't very sensible if on limited budget. Cancel the lot and invest £30 in a digibox for a wider range of TV than just terrestrial.
In my limited experience spending addiction and boredom seem to go hand in hand. Get yourself busy doing something and your opportunity to shop/spend will decrease. If you can't work do some voluntary work or just meet up with friends in a place that doesnt revolve around shops/spending.

Good Luck!

Having gone through bankruptcy myself, I have to say that Citizens Advice are brilliant. They provide the forms and even made the appointment at the court. The only real issue is finding the money to declare yourself bankrupt, as it is not free, even to those on benefits. Otherwise, you wait for them to declare you bankrupt. I guess it all depends what kind of assets you have, if anything, as to whether bankruptcy is an acceptable option.

If you're beyond help and your job prospects are next to nil, then bankruptcy will probably be your only option, but you'll struggle to get credit for ages afterwards. You could ask about an IVA (Individual Voluntary Agreement), but you probably don't have enough income to make it viable. You're supposed to sit down and work out exactly what your living expenses are, and what is "left over" from this amount each month that can be used to pay your creditors. For example, if you have £650 a month and pay £300 for rent and food etc, then in theory you have £350 left each month to spread between your creditors and they work out between them who gets what from this figure. This is only as accurate as your figures, so if you say that you can live on £100 a month food and then spend £150, it doesn't take a genius to work out that you are still living outside your means and will get into debt again. It gives you very little money to play with at all.

Learn to read and enjoy reading I promise you you will never want Sky or any other TV again. Get a library ticket and borrow books, or sit in the library and read, they have the daily papers there too. Get rid of your TV then you will not even need to pay for the licence. Same with the phone get it disconnected so you do not add to your debt - if you must have a phone buy a mobile on Ebay or thro classified ads ( less than a £10.00 will get you a good one) use via pre-pay phone card credits. Do lots of walking it helps you keep calm. Forget your debts

if you borrow .pay back you scavy fuckwit !

Some people are beyond redemption, investigate bankruptcy, that should get you on an even keel, but you won't get credit again for years and getting some services might be difficult, (Phone, TV, ) etc

honest girl!
You will not be the first or last person on earth who is in these dire circumstances, so I do empathise. What is worrying is that you are giving quite a large proportion of your benefits to a debt management company, especially as you are on income support.

First thing you need to do is to take complete control of your finances for the new year. You don't need Sky as it is indeed a luxury and you can do without Virgin Media.

Next step is to contact CCCS(Credit Consumer Counselling Service) which are a free debt management organisation who will help sort out all your finances. As you are on benefits you will more than likely end up making token payments of a £1.00 per month to each of the 17 creditors you owe money too, which will leave you enough money to buy groceries each week/month.

Good luck and try not to stress. After all it is the new year and you can definitely make a change if you put your mind to it.

As well as CAB http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/debt.htm
you can try:
CCCS http://www.cccs.co.uk/
National Debtline http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/

They all provide free advice on debt issues.

You need to get your self down to your local citizens advice bureau who will help you and refer you onto one of their debt specialists.

CAB is best course ,there is a scheme that if a percentage of your creditors agree then the others can whistle for their money, but you probably wont be better off until a lot later. This just means that those creditors who agree have more chance to get what they are owed,
It appears as you may already be in a scheme or some adviser has consolidated the debts which may not have been the wisest thing to do,

you should write to each of the companies that you owe, telling them of your problem, and they should give you a chance to pay back, but do go to the CAB,They are very good at helping with these problems, and will advise you what to do for the best.
good luck

Always remember that the people you owe money to are stinking rich. They want loose a night sleep on their yacht worrying about you. So get a good nights sleep and tell them all to piss off.
