I couldn't become a cop because of my credit score. The streets are probably better off anyway.

Your credit report should have no bearing on the ability to be able to do a job.

Possibly, not guaranteed though.

The only jobs that I know of that your credit can affect whether or not you're hired, is in the financial industry. I've been in banking for years, and that is one of the first things they look at on ALL applicants, including background checks.

It CAN keep you from getting hired if your potential employer checks your credit. If you can’t manage your own money, why would a company trust you to manage theirs?

Greg S
Rarely, usually only in jobs where you will be dealing with money (banks etc.)

Yes. There are many employers who use a credit check as a prescreen for hiring.

For certain jobs, this makes complete sense. Example: would you like someone handling your money who can not handle their own finances? Most banks and financial institutions screen out applicants with poor credit ratings.

It boils down to responsibility, specifically financial responsibility. Employers who use a credit check are often looking to identify the level of financial maturity that a candidate has. Employers must receive your written consent before pulling a credit report.

Keep in mind that poor credit can affect more that just your monthly APR on a credit card or your ability to secure a car loan. It can keep you from getting the job you want. It can raise your car insurance rates and exclude you from certain business opportunities >> Just some reasons to practice financial responsibility.

Absolutely. It depends on the job, of course, but any banking job or high security job won't hire someone with bad credit.

Mr. Prefect
Your credit report tells the potential hiring company what kind of person you are, on top of things, or a laggard, that if hired, you may bring these traits to the job.
The answer is a definite yes.
