*i have heard this type of story before.they are charging you for the meter .if you do not have one then there is nothing to pay.write or phone the company and arrange for someone to come out and look for themselves as proof you have no gas.otherwise contact c a b and get them to contact the gas company on your be halve. |

no, they need a court summons. Let them take you to court and sue them. Make them pay for their stupidity. |

British gas have recently changed there billing computer so you may find you have a received a bill like this. you will also find that when you call them you will wait for up to 30 mins for somebody to answer.
Your going to have to try and get through to them. if not contact ofsted and they will put you through to a complaints advisor of british gas. |

bailiffs are instructed by the courts, so unless you have received a summons and not attended court i wouldn't worry just yet.
they are using scare tactics because they normally work and people who don't understand how these things pay up. |

In the news the other day, it reported that British Gas have had more complaints from customers than ALL the other energy providers PUT TOGETHER. Let the bailiffs come round, show them you haven't got a meter. Don't waste your time & money contacting them. They are bloody hopeless. I switched from them last year. |

Hi Abebrundel,
First of all they can't just send in bailiffs, it is the courts that do that.
If they are continually harassing you for this so called debt then they are breaking the law.
Keep a record of what they are doing. You are protected by law from this form of harrassment. This is the Criminal Justice Act s.40 if I remember correctly.
You should contact a solicitor and threaten them with legal action.
I had a similar problem where there was a meter in the property but that was it, nothing was connected to it. They wanted to charge me for the simple fact the meter was there in case I wanted to use it at a later date.
My hubby is an engineer so he sent them a bill for £10,000. They contacted us saying they didn't owe us anything because we were not a service provider to them. My hubby told them he agreed but the bill was being sent to them just in case his services were needed in future.
They came and removed the meter and we never heard from them again.
Just threaten them with litigation and they usually back off. |

Not sure about bailiffs but someone will call to discuss the matter. (personal experience) |

Go to your local citizens advice bureau, ask them to help you.
This is not a nice situation to be in and you should not be harassed like this. If you do phone British Gas, make a note of when and the name of the person you spoke to (including their surname or extension number if they won't give it).
Bailiffs act on legal action and would also have to serve you with a notice (through your door if you aren't in) before they can take anything. If they do turn up stay calm and explain the situation - if you prove to them that you have no supply they will go back to the company, they won't act if they think it is wrong, it would be too costly to them. |

THEY CANT AND DON'T LET IT GET TO YOU ITS THE SCARY TATICS THEY ALL USE THESE DAYS BUT SOME FOLK WOULD LET THE BAILIFFS IN AND THEN YOU CAN SUE THEM HEAVILY AFTERWARDS FOR QUITE A FEW THINGS WITH A GOOD BARRISTER AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO PAY COSTS BUT IN THE MEANTIME IF THEY SHOULD SAY WE HAVE MADE A MISTAKE THEN YOU SAY I WANT COMPENSATION FOR THE STRESS AND THEY WILL PAY I PROMISE |

Oh my gosh - how wrong is that - mind you they kept sending my boyfriend bills for gas - amounting to stupid amounts, like you he has no gas, he has to keep phoning them up every 3 months to explain this - stupid isn't it. Have you phoned British Gas to explain you do not have gas - they should write the bill of - goodness knows how they can charge - what are they charging for if there is no supply. good luck |
