I was blessed with a first name from my parents that differed from my nickname (also given by my parents). All checks from friends and family are written to my nickname even though my account is in my real name. I have never had an issue with " deposit hold" so you need to contact your bank/credit union. |

You may have a 'deposit hold' on third party checks on your account anyway, but to answer your question...
A check is a legal tender note and must include the correct information to be considered by your bank. If your 'nickname' is not your legal name the check is worthless. Go back to the issuer and have them write you another one in your legal name.
As far as your bank is concerned you could be trying to cash a check that belongs to someone else. They are not obligated to cash or deposit any checks presented by a person who can not provide identification that matches the name of the party to whom it was issued. |

I don't know I've never really done that, but I think that
in my opinion you should go get ur check back cuz someone
with that wrong name might get the cash money
instead of you. |

Usually when you deposit like through ATM that is normal.
But I know my bank won't deposit that- I had a mispelling by one letter and I had to have the check remailed. |

The reason it didn't get deposited is that the bank didn't recognize the name on the check did you endorse the check by signing your real name on the back of the check or did your sign it by the nickname that is on the check. The bank will hold for a period of 10 days.
You'll have to go to the bank on Monday and explain to the branch manager that the check was sent to your home (hope you didn't throw out the envelope that it came in) with your address on it and show some id that has the same address and tell them that the name on the check is your nickname and if you have to take a parent with you so that they can verify that the name on the check is really your nickname |

It has got to be within the descretion of the teller or manager or something. My husband has this all the time and no problem. I get one letter difference on my check and I am in bank hell for a week. We use the same bank and this has happened at many other banks. |

Ring the bank now...usually they have a 24 hour enquiry line..otherwise you ill have to wait until tomorrow.....the cheque may not go through as it isn't your legal 'real' name... |
