I think you answered your own question.Would you loan money on stock(any stock)that has the potential to bottom out completely.Stock could be $50 today, next week it could be $5(and never recover). Not only have you borrowed, you've lost the potential to pay it back(you lost your capital)!
Not only do you need a wedding planner, you also need a financial one as well.

In the USA larger banks still loan against stocks. They usually advance no more than 50% of their value. The down side to this type of lending is that if the stocks fall in value the bank will pay the loan down to the 50% margin or pledge more collateral.

It is possible to get a loan pledging your stock as the collateral.

Check around for terms and conditions with several lending institutions before making your choice.

Yes you can get a loan, my younger brother got one with a similar case as yours now, if you have a reasonable credit score i advice you go to any of the banks near your area unless you don't have a nice credit score only then you should give a private loan lender a try, i know of alexfinanceloans, they are private unsecured loan lenders and they give out loans at low interest rate, i have used them once so i can testify to that, here is there direct email link (ben_aggie123@yahoo.com)

Not really - you can list them as assets against liabilities, however. But why would you want to get a loan vs selling them. If the loan is at 10% - do you think your stocks will do that well in a year? I'd sell them, then reinvest in mutual funds when you raise the cash.

The answer is yes -- see your broker...however, it is a margin loan which does not work like a home loan or a personal loan.

For what it's worth, borrowing money for a wedding is a bad idea. If you don't have the money, you shouldn't spend it.

No, since the stocks could fall in value.

lol. so apparently you can! I bet you'd get a terrible deal though. I'd just sell them. You should never have money in the stock market that you need for other things.
