Can my car be repossessed?
I bought a car 3 months ago and have never received my license plate. I launched an investigation with the DMV and it turns out the car had another lien on it when I purchased it, I told the dealer that I refuse to make payments on it anymore until i get plates. Can they still legally take my car even though it was technically never titled in my name and put in on my credit as a repo?
My payment is 5 days late

Since you can't legally own the car, I would call a lawyer about getting your money back on that car and returning it to the Dealer. However, try talking to the Dealer first. Hopefully he'll want to avoid a legal battle.

Don't go at this this way. The dealer has to give you good title to the car. If they're unable to do that, as it would seem if the car has another lien, then you should return the car and get your money back (get your down payment back and cancel any loan.)

If it's not in your name, then it's not yours and I agree with you, I wouldn't pay either. Why would you have to pay if it wasn't finalized? Tell them your going to take it to court if they don't cancel the whole thing!

Call a lawyer. They shouldn't have sold you a car with another lien on it.

oh boy this is a real mess. call a lawyer. don't worry because your lawyer can get you out of this mess. it is the dealer's responsibility to make sure the title is clear before they sell the car. you should be able to get back anything you have paid on the car up to this point.

Is the lien that is currently showing on the title paid and it just has not been signed by the lien holder releasing the lien? This happens all the time. You need to verify with the lien holder first to verify if they still have an interest in the vehicle. If the previous owner has already paid off the vehicle, then the lien holder needs to sign the title.

call the B.B.B. , f.t.c.

your plates should be in 4-8 weeks from the purchase of the car!!!

now if have and use the car you obviously HAVE TO pay for it!!!
so go in there and DEMAND to talk to the GENERAL MANAGER , OR ASK FOR THE OWNER, if you payed your fees, taxes, license amount and have a receipt , and they are not giving you your plates ,wait until the TEMPS expire and call the police on them!!!!

IF bought at a new car lot , ask for the address of headquarters(offices) of the make of the car you are driving!!!!

Yes, they can take the car. Actually, even if you made the payments, the car is technically not yours. In most cases, the dealer didn't loan you the money anyway. The finance company is entitled to their payments even if the dealer messed up. You probably have a case against the dealer to reverse the entire transaction.

Yes its called fraud. You are driving a stolen car.

First, if you do not have money for a lawyer, file a complaint with the local district magistrate. You can also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. These might cost a little, but they are a cheaper route than a lawyer. If the title does not have your name on it, then it is not legally yours. You are driving a stolen car until this gets cleared up. You need to at least try to get your money back from the dealer the nice way first. If that does not work, then you need to try other methods. It is not worth it for you to possibly go to jail if this car is actually stolen from someone else.

I suggest you store the car in a garage and call a lawyer.

my god what a mess. get a lawyer and maybe he will take the case on spec. return the car to the dealer and take a taxi home. let the lawyer sue the seller or dealer whatever and get anot ride quickly before they get your credit all screwed up. man, this is the worst i have ever heard of. you might want your lawyer to contact the local prosceuter on this one. this is criminal and somebody is going to jail. or sued to hell and back. it has you about to lose your job because you are so shook up aren't you?
