She only has insurance for the car and a student loan 250 per month. So basically her bills would come to 1200/month and she would make 2100/month. The best thing to do to be sure is to list ALL (food, electric, etc.) of the expenses and compare that to income. If the income is more than the expenses, then yes you can afford it.
Another good rule of thumb on rent is that it should be no more than 25% of take home pay. |

This would leave $900/mo to live on and save. I would rethink the car. With $6k in savings she should be able to pay cash for a used car and be able to have an additional 300/mo to save/spend. Also budget in what she wants to save. Normally ~10% ($210/mo). This will come to $2520, enough to start an IRA. |

Wait for some more time. Present financial status is require some improvement. Plan properly before getting in to financial matters. First ask her to clear all liabilities one by one. Only after words plan and decide. If both of are sure presently, then go ahead. |
