Can we make it?
i'm gonna move in with my boyfriend....he makes around $400/wk i make around $200/wk....we're gonna move into a 1 bedroom apartment....with that, a car, phone, etc....could we get all our stuff paid off and still have a decent living?

MrOrph
Decent? That's relative to your personal wants, needs, and desires. For me, I couldn't do it, but I'm 44 years old. I started like you all are and I was fine. It all comes with time.

Just remember, the bigger the paycheck, the bigger the bills. Be careful, save money, and you'll be just fine.

booge
yes

mtgguy
no way! what is your rent? is that before or after taxes? you still got to eat and deal with other personal expenses that you are not thinking of.

without asking you where do you live, i would say YES...it all depends on how strong you wana live with each other, and what standard you mean by "decent living"

That depends a lot on where you live and what your standard of life expectation is.

There is not enough figures here. Have you guys written out a budget? It's not that hard. I added up all of the shared costs of living that my g/f and I enjoy....an f'ing ton!... and we split it.

You just have to adjust the costs of things to meet what you can spend. Make a list and see how much you are working with. DO NOT FORGET TO ADD; gas, vehicle servicing, hair cuts, gifts, renters insurance, hospital visit premiums, buying household items (especially if moving in together first time) and things like that. Don't just count up what you think your bills will be, split them, and forget what you actually buy in addition to that.

It's not that hard, I just type too much. ;)

Most places, I suppose. Not in the San Francisco Bay area, though. Don't go hog wild with credit cards and car payments and you should be just fine.

Probably. It depends on how you spend your money. And after paying ALL your bills, your car note, and buying groceries, then save whats left over. Keep doing that until you have enough money to move out ; )

hope you're in south or north dakota. cuz not only are the #'s low it's gonna affect your relationship as well. being miserable is 1 thing but being miserable w/out money is really miserable. stay in your own places. don't ruin a good thing. i'm from n.y.c.. you'd be lucky to get a bathroom for that money. and that's not counting food, electric, gas, clothes, and recreation money. now do you want to be happy w/a few extra bucks n your hunny or miserable and almost broke w/ultimately straining the relationship. weigh that cost. you'll know exactly what to do.ok. good luck.
