You already know about Ramen do not forget peanutbutter and jelly and mac and cheese too! Cutdown on all expenses such as CABLE - rid the cable bill and limit yourselves to a few rental movies or even NEtflix is a great deal. If you need internet go down to your local library it is FREE or even at your College too. Get rid of LONG DISTANCE and cut your cell phone bill usage and keep track of your minutes! If you have cars then cut on the gas and carpool with eachother or other friends and everyone takes turn driving or pitches in gasoline. You can also leave the car at home due to rising gasoline prices and take the bus or ride a bike (to the store, to classes). Both you and the BF should sit down ASAP and write a list of things you buy every month, your normal bills, your expenses and start crossing off the list and cutting down from what you do not really need. Stay away from take out and fast food. It is surprising how FAST it all adds up. Good luck and hang in there! Plan out a budget and STICK TO IT.

Stay away from convenience stores and realize that most of your money will be saved or wasted on food - so eat cheap!

Living frugally requires a LOT of will power. Instead of eating at the campus pizza joints or fast food joints, eat at the student dining hall. If you can have a microwave in the dorm, you can get the heat & eat meals in the local grocery stores.

Living in an off-campus apartment requires income so you would both have to work in addition to taking classes to meet the bills. In addition to the monthly rent, you would probably have to pay a light bill plus the cost of transportation to and from your classes so living on in the dorms would save you a bundle.

raman noodles and peanutbutter & jelly sandwiches. all the neutrients you need for pennys. also spice pack sandwiches are good. get the free spice packs from little ceasers and put it on bread. cheap and tasty.

just curious
Well usually you can't live in the dorms with a guy unless you're married. Shop at goodwill or other thrift stores for furniture for your new apt. Some apts come with furniture already, but they are hard to come by. Only live with the basics, you don't need cable, you might need internet but see if you can steal a wireless signal before you buy. Turn off lights, tvs, and computers when you aren't using them. Buy lots of blankets for the winter.

Don't eat out a lot. Buy off brand stuff (if you have an Aldi's in your town it's the best, at least $30-50 cheaper than kroger). If you have cell phones, share a plan. If you want to party, stay in, bars are way too expensive. Buy books online if you can.

Get a budget together and start saving money as soon as possible. You never know what's going to happen and you'll be glad that money is there even if you don't need it.

quarters are like gold. The laundry machines in a typical dorm accept ONLY quarters. So, save up those quarters if you plan on the dorm.
Spaghettios aren't just for 10 year olds
Ramen noodles are also a college students favorite

Get a part-time job - this will be very effective in keeping you busy on your downtime and will bring money in to the household.

Avoid spending when you do NOT need to.
