Cash or Debit card, what do you use to pay for most things?

gottisanatomy
Credit definitely. Just pay it off in full every month so it is just like cash then. I notoriously lose my purse and cash is gone and a thief does way more damage with the debit then credit. I'd like to know what they do with my makeup?

Debit Card. I like the debit card because if there is a problem, there are some dispute resolution rules you can use to resolve it. The only draw-back is that you can not put a stop payment order on a debit card transaction. Also, I like having the merchant desctiptions on my bank statement. It sort of lets me know where all my dollars are going--like mainly to Wal-Mart, LOL.

I am old fashioned I use cash. I get in less debt that way. If I can't buy it with cash then I don't need it that bad anyways

Credit card. I can't seem to ever remember to stop by the bank and get cash. I do sometimes feel that fast food restaurants frown upon me chargin a meal that is under $4. *sigh*

Thanks for your question......makes me realize I really need to start carrying a purse full!

Debit card. I don't deal well with crisp crisp money. Plus we have too many coins in Canada so the smallest bill is a five.
I only carry a little cash now for emergencies like an afternoon bag of chips from the vending machine at work. Too it's hard to find a bank machine where I live so when I do need cash I use my debit card at the grocery store when I'm buying something and take a little something out.

Credit cards are used rarely.

I pay cash for food and charge everything else. It's a habit.

Credit card for all transactions. Get the points for the card, and pa the bill off at the end of each month.

Mr. Sky
credit card.

the best thing about my credit card is that I don't have to pay the bill.

......................
Pretty much everything by debit.
I only use credit when I am travelling or for very large purchases.
With debit I also pay for it immediately, not like with credit, where you get hit with bills weeks after the item purchased may no longer be around.
Debit also makes me more aware of my money and how to manage it. Credit does not do that for you.
There is always the temptation to do impulse buying and defer payments. In reality you still have to pay for it, plus interest sometimes.

ME
Debit because when I withdrawal cash I always pull out more than I need and spend, spend, spend until it's all gone.

Amy
Debit card. Can't do anything if your cash gets stolen.

I refuse to own a debit card, for the reason with debit, if something goes wrong, or there is fraud, the monies are debited THEN disputed, if its credit, the monies are left on balance until the dispute is resolved. My daughter was virtually shut down with a mistake from a company in Michigan debiting all her money and more than she had with a newly issued visa card they had. She could not pay utilities or mortgage payments until the dispute was resolved. It crippled her, although it was the bank that alerted her as to the suspicious charges, Took two months to get it straighted out, BOUNCE BOUNCE dont do it!

It is best to use a bank issued Debit/Credit card by your bank with a Visa or Mastercard logo. It works just like a "debit only" card without the fees. When asked by the clerk "debit or credit" your response is always "credit". The money is directly withdrawn from your checking account without a fee charge from either the bank or vendor. You only use the "debit" feature if you require "cash back" which would cause a fee. The banks are also very good at replacing any funds withdrawn via fraud and abuse just like a regular credit card. Cash can be lost or stolden, hence irreplacable unlike a card that can be reissued.
