my husband has a loan from his 401K that he wants to pay off we were told we had to have either a money order or cashiers check.i have checking account but i added my husband to it but when i went and got the cashier's check it only has my name and not my husband's on it,can they still cash it for my husbands 401K even if it has only my name on it? |

Banks will rarely turn down a loan being paid no matter whose name is on the check...Money is money to them; they will only have a prob if the check doesn't clear..I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. |

It depends. Are you on the 401k account? If not they may have some trouble accepting it. You should be able to go back to your issuing bank and exchange it for one with his name on it. Do not alter the check yourself or that will void it. |

It's a tricky one, I would get it changed just in case.
If time is of the essence, I would ask if they would accept it from you, I can't see why not. |

They should be able to because you are his wife and share the same residence. And to be honest most places are so happy to get their loans paid they don't care if the check is written from Uncle Joe ..lol .... Seriously, I don't think it will be a problem.

If the check is made payable to you or even to your husband, they might not accept it. It should be paid to the institution that has the 401k. You can bring the check back to the bank and mark it "not used for purposes intended" and get another check. It is not true that anyone can put money into your account, the bank must be able to withdraw that money if the check is no good. There can be issues with a cashiers check such as a stop payment placed on it. |

Yes, a Cashier's Check is not a personal check.
It is who the check is payable to that matters. |

If you have signed a check, they can deposit it into any account. If in doubt, you can always take it back to your bank and get another cashiers check cut with his name, but you should be fine. |
