If you do it on purpose it's a crime. And whether that part of it comes back to haunt you or not, it sure doesn't do your standing any good with your school by handing them a bad check. What's the benefit that you're thinking of? |

Most bank won't allow 700 dollars to clear. The school won't get the money. However, if you have overdraft protection which is connect to a credit card then you are okay. The 700 will be charge to your credit card. BofA allows this. |

Honey, if what you are asking, and you only have to pay, remember, not only your bank, but the bank in school, will charge you for an over draft....I do not know what state you are in....normally it would be 30.00 per...so, now you have to pay...60.00 dollars...to get your account straight, or how ever's account it is.......Quite honestly, if that works...don't you think, so very many people would do that....You're bank could also call you in, and ask you, what are you doing? It could be called fraud.....No way..do not do it.....Please do not. At the school,
Go explain, that you truly want your education, and do not have the money....there are so many grants, it all out here...free for you. Because YOU want to further your education.
If the school, does not give you any options.....write to your state
in which you live in. They will show/give you an option.

It is illegal to my knowledge to write a check knowing that there aren't the funds to cover the face amount.
It may be a felony to write a check over a certain amount. In Douglas County, Nebraska, bad checks over $500 are considered a felonious transaction. You can go to jail for more than a year and pay heavy fines.
I would instead go to your bank and ask for a short term loan. The interest charges on $700 would be less than overdraft fees and possible criminal penalties you can suffer.

The check may or may not clear depending upon the policies of the bank. If you're a good customer, it probably will clear. Since you're a student, the check will probably bounce and you will wind up owing money for bouncing a check and incurring the wrath of the person you gave the bad check to. Find some friend or relative to loan you the money. That's what parents are for. |

The bank will probably return the check. you'll have fees from your bank, fees from your school, it'll be embarrassing, and they probably wont take checks from you anymore. If you don't fix it with your bank fairly quickly they can then close your account and turn you into check systems. Then you wont be able to open another.
Hope for your sake it is an emergency and that you'll be able to make up the money in your account soon. Maybe you could pawn something? |

unless you have an overdraft limit for this amount, writing a check for that amount, knowing full well the money is not there, could and most likely will cancel all your backing privledges...The overdraft is there for such emergency's |
