A credit card enables you to purchase without carrying around cash. You can use it to purchase things offered on the Internet and TV, send their checks to others for payment.
Disadvantage, you have to pay, and with interest added to it if you do not pay it back within one month. Some do not have any "days of grace" between purchase and payment due date. You have to have a job usually, and produce ID to get credit cards. |

The advantage is that they are simple to use and are widely accepted.
The disadvantage is that they are easy to use and put yourself in debt. You have to control the use of a card. Only charge what you can pay for each month. Don't carry more than one or two cards. If you carry a balance from month to month be prepared to pay between 15% and 23% interest on the unpaid balance. |

I see it as a borrowing from yourself for high fees which eventually make you go under if you are not vigilent.
The disadvantages are that you can go bankrupt (that's a bad thing) because the % interest is high, maybe there's also a monthly use fee, maybe it costs you a fee to increase the maximum allowed, Like for every $1,000 it would take you a year or more to pay off at minimum payment (and that's a long time).
Advantages are that you can buy what you need in an emergency (flat tire, ran out of gas, car died in traffic, taxes are due and you didn't plan for them, emergency flight to help family, you or pet got sick and had to see the doc in a hurry). |

The disadvantage is the risk of not controlling your own spending and running up credit card debt. Many people probably spend a bit more with credit cards than they would if they were paying with cash or check.
However, if you use your credit card(s) just like cash and pay off your balance every month, then there are many rewards to be had -- especially cash back. There are lots of cash back cards to choose from and they each reward the various categories of spending (e.g. gas, restaurants, grocery, etc.) differently. There is a useful calculator tool at http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/ that will calculate the best cash back card or combination of cards for your spending profile. |

my advice is if you don't have one and you are thinking about getting one, please don't. you do not NEED a credit card like everyone thinks you do. get a visa debit card through your bank and you can do everything with that like buying things on the internet and car rental. if you never get one you can never get yourself into debt and trust me you don't want that. |

I have to say that the only advantage of having one is for an emergency like a car rental, but not used for anything else and pay it off before the interest kicks in. If a person don't have the money to buy something they want, how can they pay the bill on the credit card, plus, the interest will force you to pay even more than the item costs. These credit cards get people into allot of trouble. Miss or be late one time on that card and that interest will fly up as high as the law will allow them to raise it. So, if you are thinking about getting one, I wouldn't. |

interest is the main disadvantage. my dad went bankrupt and it caused really bad problems in my family. :/
advantages? there are points to be earned and discounts at many apparel + eating places
if you use your CC wisely, you can benefit.
if not...it would cause alot of social economic problems. |
