DLA Benefit?
I am 17 and claim DLA.. It gets payed into my post office account..
My mum keeps my post office card and collects my benefit every four weeks..
I have asked for my post office card so i can get my money out but my mum said no my mum also refuses to tell me the pin number..

Is my mum aloud to keep my Post Office card and not let me take charge of my benefit?
Additional Details
My mum only collects it for me every four weeks.. I am aware that she keeps some back for my house keep but she has never told my exactly how much..
She usually gives me £100

I wouldnt have thought so, if you're old enough to claim the benefit in your own right, she has no right to keep it from you

-:¦:-Jellybean-:¦:-
Hi I also claim DLA and understand the in's and out's of it...
1) you were entitled to claim from 16 years old as you are classed as an adult, unless your mother has told them you mentaly impared in some way and can not do it yourself, as this is the only time an adult can sign the form on your behalf!
2) DLA has three levels...
Highest rate £67.00
Middle rate £44.85
Lowest rate £17.75 per week depends how disabled you are...
Also they break it down again, and they will tell you if you are entitled to get, a care component - if you need help looking after yourself or supervision to keep you safe
a mobility component - if you can't walk or need help getting around.
Thing is what your Mum is doing is illegal! UNLESS you are mentally disturbed and can not claim yourself, and you sound very with it to me!

So do yourself a favour ring this number 08457 123 456 this is the DLA HELP LINE
there very nice people, tell them your problem, and they will probably tell you to open a new account and tell them the new account number so that YOUR benafit can be paid TO YOU ONLY, your Mum is keeping back way to much money.... ring them ASAP... I would keep this privite between you and the DLA people for now.

Best of luck hope you get your money soon... If you need more info go ...

This is the DLA help online....
Good luck hun Xxx

no she is not, that is your bank account, it is against the law for her to keep the card, use the card, never mind not tell you the pin number!!!!

Fran H
No not really, phone DLA and tell them what is happening to your benefit. or
Go to the benefits office near where you live, they will be able to help and also you could phone the DLA from their office.
Any reason why your Mum keeps your money? Does she give a reason, seems like you are more than capable of collecting your own money.

Good luck
let us know how you get on. But 16 is the legal age in the UK to leave home if you wish, so collecting your money should not be a problem.

UK based Mum who has someone collecting their own DLA

You are 17 so I would imagine you were entitled to be in control of your own money. Does you mum keep this money and use it for your keep though? Though you are not working she will still have bills to pay!

Richard_SM
What she's allowed to do - and what she does may not coincide.. The problem is yours at present.
Why does your Mum not give you access?
Why do you want access?
If you really do need direct access, you need to contact the Post Office and explain the problem and that you'd like to change your PIN.

Sarah B
Technically, yes, as you're still a minor. Do you have a bank account? If so, why not set up a direct payment and have it paid (note spelling) directly there. If you don't have a bank account - well open one!

She's obviously thinking she's got your best interests at heart.

And it's 'allowed' - 'aloud' means, well I'm sure you know what it means.

May I ask why you are in receipt of it...?
