Kramer | Desperately need all your help on finding a better paying job? (Just Please Read)? |
Hi,
I'm Alex and I'm 20. I just graduated high school, and desperately trying to find a decent paying job. I already have a job but it's killing me slowly, waking up everyday takes too much from me. Don't get me wrong I thank God for giving me a job, but I don't make a good living. I make about $270.00 per week. You're probably thinking I complain too much but if you were in my situation you'd know exactly why. Basically, I come from a very humble Mexican family, can't afford college and I'm struggling to help pay my bills, plus help out at home expenses which I don't mind. I'm a hard dedicated worker and I bust my *** every day at work and don't get paid what I deserve. I'm tired of living this kind of life, I'm welcoming a change in my life. Life is too tough for me, I think it's more acceptable to ask for help when you need it.
What steps could I take to better my results each time? I look for jobs each day with no luck, I need all the help I can get. I want a decent future. Additional Details Plus on top of everything else, I have to deal with racist people at work and I shouldn't have to because I am a natural born citizen of the United States and I have all the paper work to prove it. Instead of putting money on my account I have to take out money to pay my bills. Could you just please give me ideas to help me get a better job to help support my family and myself for that matter. I want a decent future and will work hard, but I need all your help please.
Thank you all in advance, all your time and advice are greatly appreciated. Gracias=Thank You!!! |

Your English is quite good. Therefore, I would look into a career in the legal field. It may be a bit of a hurdle to get in the door, but a litigation secretary, a good one, will earn at least $85,000 per year in the right law firm (in California, but the pay scale is proportionate to the cost of living of where you live). The work is challenging but interesting. The prerequisites are a good command of the English language, organizational skills, and word processing skills. The rest you can learn on the job if an employer is willing to train you. In any event, if you learn to use wordprocessing software (which you probably already know), like WordPerfect or MSWord, it is a marketable skill. $270 a week is not something you can really live on, even if that is your net pay. |

Education is really the best way to get a better job. You can work and take classes at your local community college ... most community colleges are very affordable. College doesn't need to cost a fortune, and you may qualify for state and federal assistance which can come in the form of loans or grants (which you don't have to pay back). Good luck! |

get a car and become a pizza driver, they make $15.00 an hour with tips, and it's an easy job. Or consider moving to another city. Entry level jobs in las vegas, for example, can start at $10-$12 per hour |

I got just the thing for you. Go get a job at a dealership as a salesman, there is no limit on how much you can get paid. Trust me. I prefer you choose a dealership that sells good quality cars where they sell themselves like HONDA or TOYOTA dealerships.
You don't need any prior experience for being a salesman. You do need a high school diploma which you already have. People at car dealerships are looking for young and entergetic people like yourself. Apply online or get an application in person and talk to the human resource manager personally about if there is a position for a salesman.
After you apply, call in the next couple of days but I want you to sound very excited on the phone, they love that! Tell them "I'm very excited to meet with you and tell you about myself and what I want to do with your comany". Youll get the interview if you stay motivated.
When you are in the interview process, tell them that you are there to make money. I know what your thinking, "isnt that a little to forward"? Not for carsalesman. They want to hear that kind of stuff and they actually prefer a man who doesnt have experience because they feel as though they can mold you into this great salesman. I was making 4-6 thousand a month on average and more on my best months. |

Of course you can afford college. It will just take time but you have to start now.
At the very least, you could start saving a certain amount of money every week and put it aside for 'education.' You say you have a lot of bills but the very first person to pay is yourself - not 'fun' money but 'education' money.
Then look around and see what sort of technical training programs there are that you would be able to afford.
The goal should be to have that skill (you will do well in a training program to fix computers, for example, because you've already proven you are a good student...) and guarantee that the next job you get will pay better. Make sure that you talk to the people who run the training program about the job prospects and even call some companies that advertise those kinds of jobs and see if they hire people right from the training program.
Save some money - just do it. Get through a training program - just do it. Get the job you are then qualified for - just do it. Then start going to school at night for that college degree but with a specific goal in mind.
Even when you are making more money, don't change your life style. You will be 'living below your means' and you will be saving money - which you should never touch. That savings will be the beginning of long term wealth-building. Remember that once you spend it, it is gone. So save as much as you can.
You will do well if you work hard and live with as few expenses as possible until you can advance in the work force. Then again, you work hard and still live below your means except now your level has risen a bit. Keep doing that and you can build real wealth. |

in order to get a good paying job you will have to either learn a skilled trade (like becoming an electrician or plumber) or go to college. A high school diploma will not cut it. high school diplomas are almost worthless in todays competitive job market.
You can get financial aid while you go to college. If you apply early for a grant (like right now!), you might be able to get a couple of thousand dollars per semester or more to pay for a community college in your area. You really should consider it.
I know some electrical contractors in my area hire unskilled workers with no prior experience. You can get a johb as a helper without having to have any schooling. In some cases they will pay for your schooling while you work as an "apprentice" electrician. |

Get a student loan from the department of education and get a degree.
In the short term, move to a city that hs chaper housing. |

"I'm 20. I just graduated high school."
That about says it my friend. Unless you've got a good explanation for that and a plan to start a degree soon, you're pretty much confined to the lower pay bracket forever. Its a sad fact, but a high school education really doesn't mean much in this country anymore, and unless you've got some redeeming skills or intelligence, you are not going to move up in life. Opportunities don't just float down out of the blue, you have to work at them. As I said, get a degree. |
