Are £5 coins exchangeable into £5 notes? |
| I've got a five pound coin and I don't know whether it's allowed to be changed back at the post office into a £5 note. Anyone know?... |
|
I received a notice from Yahoo saying I won 400,000.Is this legit & it required I pay for delivery of funds.? |
They used your headings, etc. & it looks genuine but needing us to pay for delivery raised a red flag!
Please advise ASAP!
Thanks,

Brutally Honest | Did I do the right thing about not lending my neice money? |
My neice called my yesterday asking to borrow $60 because she wanted to go somewhere, I don't remember actually what she said but anyways I didn't want to give her the money because she doesn't have a job and I was worried she wouldn't pay me back, but what I feel bad about is that I gave an excuse to not give her the money which was partically true. The thing is though my dad notice that when she calls us she would ask for money but she wouldn't often do this I say once in a while she does this. My dad gave her money before either once or 2 and that was it.
So, I feel that she didn't really need $60 but something tells me that she will call again asking for money but should I not answer my phone and if she leaves a message should I not call her back? Additional Details my neice is 17 and I'm 20. She is in college. She told me her father would not give her money. |

It is your money so you have the right to spend it and give it, in any way you choose. It is easy for people to make us feel guilty about not helping them out when they are generally not the ones helping people. People always asking for things can be pretty selfish, especially if she has no intentions of paying you back. I say only give it to her if you can afford it and you want to. |

no i don't think you should feel that you need to loan her money. she needs to learn that if she wants something, she needs to work for it. she will not learn any responsibility by having people just give her money. |

You did the right thing... loans like that rarely get paid back and causes all sorts of rifs in the family. |

Tell her to get a job and show some independence. Just b/c you are family does not mean she can take advantage. She needs to know how to work for what she wants. I think you did the right thing and not to mention times are tough. |

Wow, you guys aren't teaching her a thing.
Next time she calls offer to have her earn the money. You have to have things around your house that she can do to earn the money.
I have too many nieces and nephews and other than birthdays I never give them money. I do, however, allow them to come stay with me every summer and work for spending cash.
Why is "work" never looked at anymore?
Have her wash windows, clean the car, do laundry, sweep the floors, wash knickknacks, file, whatever. "Pay" her a fair wage, like $10 an hour or so.
We better start teaching our children the value of hard work because the good jobs are gone from this country. And now we are left with two generations that are "too good" to work.
Help your niece and teach her the value of work. |

If she asks again, you should ask why she needs it. Then, when she tells you why, you should ask why she needs to do that. If she hasn't got a good reason, you shouldn't lend it to her, and you should tell her why. If she does have a good reason, you should help her out. |

How old is this girl and why don't she ask her parents for the money.
No you wasn't wrong to refuse to give her money. She isn't your child and if she isn't in school then she needs to get a job. Today when gas prices and food costs so much most ppl cant afford to hand that kind of money to someone knowing they may never get it back.
I say Good for you, stick to your guns and don't give her the money no matter how many times she calls. |

Well does she pay you back? Something tells me she doesn't. I have learned a valuable lesson in life regarding loaning people money. When you give someone a loan, no matter how big or small, consider it a gift, cos you rarely get it back (unless they're a truly giving person). And many good friendships (not just my friendships!) have been lost because of things like this. Never, ever, would I ever loan anyone money again. Books - yes. Clothes - Maybe. Money - NO! |

How old is your neice? does she give valid reasons for asking? Its kind of weird that she does have to ask though. She does need a job if she has to ask to borrow money, I agree. If she has a way to pay you back I'd say its ok, but it sounds like she's just looking for handouts. |

Depending on how close and dear this niece is, if I were you, I would have considered lending her the money, after hearing her out. If her story satisfies me and I think she really needs the money urgently, or so it seems, I will lend it to her as it's only $60, based on calculated risk that she will not return it. Let her know that you have limited savings but you are still lending her the money because you want to help, care and love her very much. This will make her think twice the next time if she is pulling a fast one on you. But I think you should at least help her out once because it could be a genuine case of desperation. Remember, what goes around comes around. |

miss whatever...

if you give her money, she'll keep on asking for it, so you'd better say no since the beginning and so she'll have to find herself a job in order to have it...let her become independent unless it's an emergency don't lend her any |

I would tell her the truth saying that if she doesnt pay you back, then you cant lend her any money. |

It's OK not to lend money to people that you don't feel will pay you back. But at least be honest with your niece. |
