I know that if you don't take your card it takes the card back after a little while, but I am not sure about the cash. |

Not to my Knowledge - but I may be wrong.
A couple of months back I tried to withdraw £150
But the ATM said It had a problem so I withdrew it from the PO instead - when I checked my account online later that week I was surprised to see that 2 deductions of £150 had been made on that day, I complained and after a 6 week investigation I got my money(£150) back - check them statements! |

I have never known that to happen. If you had left your money in the cashpoint then it is more likely that someone has seen the money and pocketed it. |

yes its a security mechanism...if it has happened to you just go into the bank....takes about a week to get it back
they have to check that it is actually yours... |

i doubt that there would be any money to take back if you left the machine without taking your cash someone else would come along and take your cash instead |

I don't think so, but they do suck your debit/credit card back in after about 30 seconds. That happened to me and it's a pain to get your card back! |

Yes, some ATM’s but not all. This happened to me once in Sydney, I was taking out my money, it came out but I was talking to a friend next to me and didn’t take it quick enough, the ATM then pulled it back it. I had to go into the Bank Branch to get it back into my Account.
Other ATM’s it has not happened, I think the NCR Make do take it and the Diebold make don’t. But not sure. |

I work for a high street UK bank and this believe it or not is quite common. From a security perspective, the ATM machines will take the cash back in if its not been taken within a certain period of time.
If this has happened to you, get in touch with the bank who owns the machine and advise them of what has happened. All cash machines need to be balanced on or around a weekly basis. The bank should then instruct the ATM to be balanced and once this has been done if the machine did take your cash back then the ATM should be up whereas if somebody took your cash then the ATM should be correct.
Asking the ATM owner to do this is free of charge and they shall keep you informed every step of the way.
Good luck |

Yes, it happened to my daughter, and she was told that the cash would have been re-drawn into the machine after15 secs. |

It does take the cash but doesn,t automatically re credit your account. You have to go to the brach and report it, an best of luck in doing that |

Yes it will. There is a time delay and if you don't pull the money out fast enough, the machine will pull it back in. Sometimes if the machine pulls the money back in, the money won't actually be debited from your account, but that is not always the case. You should contact your bank if the funds are debited from your account and file a dispute against the debit. The people who balance the ATM want it to balance perfectly so they will be looking for someone to claim that money. |

ATM's will suck the cash back in and deposit it back to your account if no one took the cash. Each ATM is different on how long it will leave the cash hanging out to take though. |

I agree with texas girl as exactly the same thing happend to me recently. I was told that if your money is not withdrawn within fifteen seconds it gets pulled back into the ATM.
I punched in the numbers at the ATM - and for some unknown reason - it didn't deliver. I also didn't receive the transaction receipt I asked for.
My bank account indicated the money I asked for, was withdrawn. As it was a substantial amount I was really concerned. I put in a dispute claim form to my bank but after 3 weeks of not hearing anything, I complained to the ATM owners. They fixed things up the following day.
My advice though is not to walk away from the ATM until you are sure that after waiting a reasonable amount of time - no money is going to pop out of the ATM slot. That way you have a good argument if your money somehow does get presented to someone else after you leave. It's not your fault that the ATM is not operating correctly! Or you could do what I was contemplating, and that is to take a sledge hammer to the keypad and wait for the cops to arrive. Gauranteed to get a much quicker response doing things this way!!! |
