It`s been 18 days now since I tried to withdraw 300 pounds - no money appeared and my account was debited for that amount. Despite filling out a dispute form with ABBEY 18 days ago and despite pestering them, I aint been refunded - Have I got a cat in hells chance of getting that money back? What if the person behind me in the queue had it? Abbey arent even responding to me now - that money was my rent money !!! |

As some of the answers already point out you should have no problem getting your money back. An ATM is balanced regularly and should show your £300 as an overage, it is recommended by some banks to take up to 10 days to resolve an ATM claim so you should have an answer but now. Was it an abbey ATM that you used? If it wasn't then they may be having problems with the ATM operator if it was an Abbey machine then they have no excuses. I would go into the branch and speak to someone there but i know they can have a habit if asking you to call there telephone banking service if they do this just refuse and ask them to do it if they need to phone. i bank with abbey and to be honest they're useless. The balance on the ATM should be checked, I am sure they are checked as a matter of course anyway, and when it's found it's £300 down they will be able to refund you, though apparently this can take a few weeks. I would contact them again, and ask for a response with 14 days or you will be contacting the financial ombudsman. Why don't you go down to the citizen's advice bureau and see if they can help? They should have counted their atm and did a balance and found it 300 pounds out therefore they should be well and truly able to verify your dispute. |

That`s why I would never use an A.T.M. I don`t trust them.
I know there are times when you probably have to use the ATM (bank closed etc).
But I still would rather wait until the Bank was open. |

Sorry Julie, unless there has been a proven malfunction in the machine [all of the banks say they never malfunction] you are out of luck.I have watched someone in front of me take their card back and walk off without the money. I had to run after them and give it back. That anecdote is the one the banks use most ' The person behind you must have taken your £300'. Sorry once again. |

If your account was debited and it is showing on your Bank
statement. Also did you keep the slip from the atm?
I would write a letter of complaint to the bank, telling them which atm was used. The time it was used as near as possible. tell them this was for an urgent personal expense
and tell them you would like interest added for the number of
days you have been kept waiting for an outcome of this.
When you write never ask when are they going to do something. Always write I want this dealing with at the earliest
