Judy | Do banks have ATM cash withdrawl limits? |
I took out $300 to go on vacation out of my ATM, on the same dad my husband took out $300. (almost at the same time - at a different bank branch ATM).
Are there no limits?
Has anyone taken out huge amounts of money like that?
Ok, you rich folks, to me $600 is a huge amount - be nice. |

All banks have limits on ATM withdrawals (as well as all other issuers of credit cards and debit cards including credit unions, stock brokerages, etc.). The amount you can withdraw may depend upon:
1) the bank
2) the amount of money you have in accounts at the bank
3) if you have any loans, CDs, or other business with the bank
4) your credit history
5) the length of time you've had an account with the bank
6) the type of credit card (silver, gold, platinum, etc.)
7) what time of day is the end of the business day for the bank
8) etc..
$300 is a fairly standard amount for banks if you have a basic account with them and have a clear credit history. My brokerage account has a higher limit than the basic limit at my credit union. My credit union raised my withdrawal limit when I invested in some CDs with them. I could get an even higher limit if I switched to a gold or platinum credit card (but those also have annual fees, whereas their basic credit card has no fees).
You should contact your bank to find out what the current limit is on your account and might also ask what you can do to change the limit if you want it raised. You might also ask what time they use to rollover to a new day (I think that it's 2AM for my credit union). |

Usually there is a $300 limit, but maybe since you each have a different card number, even for the same account, and different pins, it would work. |

it depends on your standings with your bank. I can take out up to 1400 a day. ..some ppl I know have a limit of 400..so depends
As well to the ppl that are writing that the bank has a 300$ limit, are you sure its not just per transaction?? cause my bank is 400, but right after i can put my card back in and keep taking out 400 at a time till my limit for the day is reached |

Yes you could have to check with your bank. My daily limit is $1000. |

yes there are usually limits attached to ATM cards, usually between $500 and $1000 per 24 hour period- you would need to call you bank to find out the specifics |

As the user before me said, it depends on the bank. I am with LaSalle bank. They have a limit of one thousand for my ATM withdrawal limit. It's best to call in to your bank and ask. And trust me, you're not the only person who thinks 600 is a decent amount. =P Some of us don't have it as good and need to stretch our pennies. |

Bank of America has a $300 cash withdrawal limit at the ATM. You may want to call your bank and ask. If your husband was able to take money out after you did, then I assume your bank was okay with it. |

Most banks have withdrawal limits. It depends on the amount you have in your account or the type of account. |

Usually it is $400, some have $200, depends on the bank. Maybe your timing affected it and you got away with more than you should have.
Now some bank ATMs use a 2PM cut-off time. So everything before 2PM is the same day and everything after is the next day. Maybe you went in at 1:50 and he hit it at 2:15... possible. |

It depends on the bank and on the account. Most people I know cannot take out $600 in a single day. |

Actually the limits are individualized, even at Bank of America. There are daily spending limits and ATM withdrawal limits on EACH card, as each card is treated as a different account. My withdrawal limit is 600 per day but my boyfriend's is 1000. Some customers even have 1500 or 2000, just depends on how long you've been with the bank, along with other factors. Some smaller banks have the same limits for everyone but policies are leaning more towards individualized limits. If your bank does base limits on the person, it could be that they never increased your limit because you appeared comfortable in it. I've never withdrawn more than 150 or 200 at a time on the rare occasion I use the ATM (gotta have money to take it out, right? ;-) Hence the reason I don't...) so they've never seen the need to increase my limit. You're right, 600 is a lot... shoot that's a stinking car payment! |
