No, absolutely not.

prgrl82
You shouldn't. Debit cards are connected to bank accounts. Most, if not all, banks give you a debit card (which also works as an ATM card) once you open a checking account.

hbuckmeister
NOPE. And why you may ask? I never had a credit card in my life, but my bank gave me a debit card visa. Your bank will do the same for you and make sure you have enough in your checking account or savings account to cover any purchase. The difference between the debit card and the credit card, is the the debit card charges come directly out of your checking account/savings account. A credit card, you are billed for it and pay for it over time.

NO you just need to have a checking account however a debit card does allow electronic access to your account and some banks offer certain overdraft protection plans acting as a line of credit per se so be careful.

Dennis Koray
Hi,

u do not need a credit card. You have to put money on your debit card to use it...It acts like a credit card, but you always have to ensure there is enough money on it.

Cheers

No. You just have to have a bank account and request a debit card which simply take $ out of that account as if you had written a check. Make sure you keep track of your spending because unlike a credit card, your limit is how much $ you have in your account.

If you have a checking account, MOST ALL Banks offer a Debit card these days, which can be used as a credit card. Just remember, this $ comes out of your account NOW, not later, so don't spend it if you don't have it.

The only thing you need for a debit card is a checking account. Well, and the money in the account to pay what you want to with the debit card. You can use the card as a signature or pin purchase. This helps when they want a credit card on websites and such.

No, the debit card is attached to your checking account... Therefore: No money=no spending of what you do not have. Simple really.

Darkskinnyboy
No you can just use a debit card, but you'll probably need some forms of identifications.

Steve
No, you need a bank account.

Bug Fuggy
No, a debit card is through a bank and the money comes out of your bank account when you use it. You can get a Visa or Mastercard debit card that are used anywhere Visa or Mastecard are used and also allow you to over draw your account by 500 bucks but they then own your first born if you do over draw

prepaid card scores over credit cards especially if the owner has a not so perfect credit history.

The rejection is non existent in case of prepaid credit cards, there are no credit checks, no employment verification, and approval is guaranteed.

With a bit of dilligent shopping and comparision of various prepaid credit card offers, it is not difficult to find a prepaid card with no annual fees, no late payment fees, no repayments, and no penalties whatsoever. So, the ownership costs of a prepaid card can be negligible.

With prepaid cards it is very easy to promote financial discipline. Since you can only spend what you have, there is no overspending, and hence no debts.

Some prepaid cards do report their use to major credit bureaus and hence are a good instrument to rebuild credit history.

Prepaid cards have wide acceptablility, and in some cases they are even more readily accepted than credit cards. Apply online at: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/PrePaid_Card.html

no. a debit card is linked to a checking or savings account that you put money in... credit is money you don't have already.

No just open a checking account. but, be Wise about it! Too many people have lost a lot of credit and credibility when they get a debit card in their hands.
