Look after the pennies and the pounds look after themself.
1 & 2 pence coins are for charity collectors and beggars. |

Well I don't bother to pick them up, But if all prices were to nearest 5p wouldn't matter on bigger items but foods and household things would all be repriced , dearer for sure, and would increase weekly shopping bills at a time of depression etc. |

See a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck.... Doesn't have the same luster as when you're carting around a stretched out wallet full of the crap, does it?
I agree. But you know if the ban the 1's & 2's every price will go up to the nearest 5. Bah.
Luckily I'm a cat & the only pennies I need to worry about are the ones paying for my tinned salmon. 'Taste the difference' my a$$. |

I think eventually they will be phased out, after all you can't buy anything for 1p anymore! I remember when you could buy sweets for 1p or even 1/2p!!! |

If we were to get rid of 1p coins and make everything either £20 or £19.95 then we would actually lose or make quite a bit of money.
If we charged £19.95 for a product instead of £19.99 then the seller would lose 4p per transaction..that doesn't sound like much but imagine selling 10,000 of these which if its clothing, electronics something like that isn't actually that much. That would mean the seller would lose out on £400 on that one insignificant item. Which does add up to a lot.
but then a lot of retailers are scratching the psychological pricing strategy and selling things at whole £. Like Next did last year. The consumer doesn't really notice (and I actually prefer it) but they're making that little bit extra on what they sell, which surely benefits them.
I wouldn't mind not having the change, but then everytime I do get change I put in the charity box next to the till as I'm sure a small percentage of people do. Therefore Charity would be losing out.
I'm neither here nor there really. but thought I'd ramble since its guna be a looooong day! :) |

I'm not sure. What i do know is - Woolworths give you vouchers worth 1p if you use a £10 gift voucher for something worth £9.99.
Don't spend them all on 1p sweets at once. |

if you got rid of them you would have to get rid of all coins with a value under a pound.just wondering though what would you say if bags of them were being given away ? |
