Do yo think we have the power to lower the gas prices?
It seem to me, if we organize our daily travels by eliminating those extra unplanned trips we would use less gas,(probably 2/3s less) which would cause the limited reserve storage supply to be over filled and cause that limited storage supply to become over filled and the oil companies would be forced to lower the prices in order to keep the supply moving.

I think we have control. The oil companies are trying to make us think and feel that we don't have control. I believe we can cause the gas price to be what we want them to be by managing our travels (you know those "Oh,I forgot to" trips). I don't want to pay more than .75 per gallon but, I can't do it alone. I need your help. I think by collectively managing our use of fuel we can make them know that supply and demand really controls price. This is just a different shift in the paradigm of thinking and acting.. Hey! we have control. Pass it on.. What do you think? Yes, I think we waste 2/3s and 1/4 of $3.00 per barrel is .75.
Additional Details
OK EVERYONE, this is a great start. Now all those great Ideas on backing up those reserve tanks are wonderful. walking, riding the bus, eliminating those extra trips as best we can, planning our travels. anything to use less fuel. We can do this.. let's see if we can get the price down to $2.00 in two weeks.. Let's try. PASS IT ON!!!! remember we have CONTROL...

Yes vote for a president in 2008 that has no involvment at all in oil

Of course we do- but we must have the will and resolve to elect leaders who have the ability and intelligence to manage and shape policies that promote energy independence.

Case in point: Bush has worked tirelessly to support the oil, coal and gas industry and those that support it. He has signed several substantial tax breaks into law for oil companies. He is trying to open up a pristine national park for oil exploitation. He changed mandatory 2007 MPG standards for automakers (Clinton/Gore) into voluntary compliance- which of course hasn't been met. He has relaxed air and water pollution rules to foster growth in oil, gas and coal industries. During the 2000 campaign, he laughed at tax breaks for people who install solar panels in their homes. More significantly, he has raised our national debt by over 3 TRILLION dollars, which affects everything including fuel prices.

If you want better gas prices, and a better, cleaner, more honest USA, we must elect competent leaders, not Republicans.

Yes. Leave Iraq and it will come down on its own.

As China and India develop and use more of the world's petroleum resources we will have less of an impact...that being said, the USA uses much more petroleum than any other country in the world and should lead the way in conservation and innovative solutions - Demand more of your congressman...if everyone who was pissed off with gas prices demanded to know what their congressman was doing to develop solutions to this problem (not just capping prices which won't work except to create shortages) we would see much more progress in this area...managing our trips, telecommuting, carpools, biking, walking, all these things can make a difference...doing good things for the environment and the security of our country and the world could be a priority...it would be nice to see Hollywood take up the cause as well...anything to get people to change.

if we all use electric or solar powered cars nobody would buy oil, and then the prices would drop so low they would have to give the stuff away just to get rid of it. Mwhahaha mwhaha haha ha a haha

goober_head_13
No, that won't work. Although people complain about the price of gas, most of them aren't willing to give up the freedom to get up & go whenever they want. As for me, all I ever drove when gas was $1.00 a gallon was when it was absolutely neccessary (in my opinion). So exactly how am I going to drive less. Plus, if we did stick together and somehow drive down the prices, once they fell everyone would go back to the way they were before and we would repeat the never-ending cycle. If you know anything about economics then you know that gas is an inelastic good, which means they laws of supply and demand don't have the near the effect on gas and other inelastic goods as they do on elastic goods.

bluebell1us
no, our needs for gas to get to work, school, or wherever keeps us at their mercy

cosaxteacher
Yes, of course we have the power to lower gass prices since we are the people that put the demand up so high by our stupid usage.
We would probably only use 1/4 less gass if we got rid of unplanned trips. Unplanned trips account for maybe 10-20 miles on a 300 mile tank of gas for me. Most of mine is the 30 miles daily of driving to work and back.
What we all need to do is find alternate means to get places, such as carpooling (4 people in a car is better than 4 people in 1 car), mass transportation, or using items such as bicycles, rollerskates, skateboards, or God forbid, our own two feet to walk somewhere.
That will be the best way for us to stick it to the oil companies and drive prices down.

And to poster gcash(the first poster), George Bush didn't put us here, it is all of the millions of us driving gas guzzling cars for the last 50 years that put us here. This isn't something that happened overnight.

Jojo
What about buying gas only from certain stations that aren't collecting billions + annually in profits!

(hint: any gas company that doesn't start w/E)

if all americans would band together for a couple of weeks, we could control oil prices,as well as any other prices we wanted...walmart included! but that will never happen because we americans are too stuck up! haha but it is the truth.. we all wanna drive SUVs

N2JESUS
We probably ALL have the power if we ban together. Gas is NOT that expensive when all these companies are raking in record breaking profits! Good question.

HOW ABOUT A PERSONAL SOLUTION! I can offer some ideas that will help you save your own money on gas. This is done by a new fuel reformulator that was just released to the US public a few weeks ago after being tied up in govt. regulations for 10 years. You add a small amount of this formula to your gas tank every time that you buy gas. It increases your gas mileage by 7% to 19%. If you do the math, any mileage increase over 4% saves money in your pocket. It also makes older cars run better. The stuff has been tested by FOX News and NBC News affiliates. Check it out at http://www.saveongasoline.com/viabruce . Make sure you click on the MOVIES Tab to see the news reports. You can also get paid for sharing this news with others. Use the money that you make to buy a new hybrid car. Got more questions? boatclub@go.com Subject: = save gas

Yes. Park your car. If enough people do it, demand will drop, and prices will fall. Ethanol and hydrogen are coming. When they do, make your own fuel.

PENSACOLAWANTSTOKNOW
I do think we have the power to pull it of, however I wonder if the American people have the will to do it. I have already taken to riding the bus to work, as it is much cheaper than driving. I actually enjoy riding the bus. There are interesting people and I can enjoy the ride. I doubt that many people would bother to take the extra time needed to do such things. I do feel that stopping the use of so much gas might be a wake up call to the Oil Industry. Thanks for letting me vent on this subject. We need to quit being victims of Big Oil and fight back in the only language the under stand $$$$$$$$$$

Raging:247
I know that people go on their past experiences and what they are used to but in the UK we pay £1 a ltr now, that's $1.86 for a litre, not even a gallon.
Don't complain.

Although cars in the states do drink more gas so I can understand your anger.

don't buy gas. No demand the price will go down.

whynotaskdon
Absolutly NOT! The Pres. of the USA, and vice Pres. are both big shareholders in the Gasoline (Oil) business. ALL governments are raking in big big profits from the so called run away gas prices. There is no possible way to prove that the price of fuel to the filling stations ( and their pump prices) is directed from any particular source. It is common knowledge that that is indeed the case. A barrel of oil when destilled produces many hundreds of dollars worth of chemicals for medical uses, solvens, lubricants, plastics, as well as the gasoline we buy.. THEN after all the super products are extracted the refinery sells the sludge left over - to surface roads, etc. for much more than the original cost of the barrel of oil! THERE IS AN OLD SAYING, IF YOU ARE GOING TO GET SCRXXXD, you might as well just bend over and XXXXXXX it.

yes we have power because i think we can use alternative,,,,,for example oil. in this way price will bring down.

It's a nice idea, but I think more convenience needs to be included in your idea. I think incouraging people not to buy from the big suppliers would be more benifitial. After all, people are already naturally driving less due to the high oil prices.
