Do you care about the U.S. economy now?
Five months ago I asked this same question. I'm interested what people say now, or are you going to stick your heads in the sand until your all homeless, unable to buy food, and unemployed.

It matters to me, because a lot of my relatives live there and I would be directly affected by an economic downturn, especially if I end up going to school there as planned. I am following the current situation with much interest. Additionally, in the country I am currently living in, a lot of people dismiss the worries that are circulating about a recession, saying that it doesn't affect them. Well, they might like to go find out just how much of their own economy is tied to the US, and how many countries are directly affected by their economy through international trade. When you live in a country that receives the largest amount of US imports worldwide, you can't not be affected.

1. I bought a Prius over a year ago so I get between 45-55 miles per gallon. I was sick and tired of the amount of my money that was being sent overseas to purchase crude oil to fuel my car. The old Lexus only got about 21-22 MPG. When a plug-in hybrid goes on the market, I'll be driving one in the slow lane--watch out for me. If you aren't part of the solution then you ARE the problem and you don't have a right to ***** about it.

2. If the oil companies don't make a profit then they don't have the resources to keep their refining production at maximum efficiency. If refining drops, there will be less gasoline and then you will really see how the prices will soar when you have less product and more buyers.

3. While I am not an employee of an oil company, I own several mutual funds (some 401k and some personally) and I would bet that some of that is invested in domestic oil companies. I want a return on that investment so that I can retire some day and the CEO's know it. This is a very capital intensive business so don't look at the big numbers that represent the total profit, but look at the earnings per share for the zillions of shares outstanding. Get down on your knees and thank Marathon Oil for their project to expand their refinery in Garyville, LA.

HA! I was doing the same about the Aussie intrest rates... now they're sky high... thetruth is no-one seems to care until the rich start to feel the sting.. that's life :/

What can anyone do? This economy is the result of 8 years of bad leadership and waste. The American people chose G. W. Bush and now the crap is just starting to come to a head. There is only one person I know of who can get us out of this mess. It is Hillary Clinton with the backing of Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton left the White House with a 16 billion dollar surplus. If Hillary does not win we are doomed. We are too deep into the war to just pull out and the war is draining us, our only hope is to unleash the Clintons and let them do whatever needs to be done to save us.

Nope. I own my house, I have no investments, and my pension just about covers my expenses, and anyway, I'm in Australia, and we're doing fine.

What do you suggest we do?
Why don't we just stop wasting billions in Iraq to built their economy and just take their freakin oil so we don't have to pay $4 a gallon on gas.
Freakin oil companies are to blame too. Trillions in profit! And us Americans we are still stupid enough to drive big SUV's to the fast food drive thru around the corner, stuffing our faces and growing two rear ends.
Obesity is bankrupting our medical system (whatever so called system we have) and our personal wallets. You will not believe how much I save on gas when that fat co-worker of mine calls in sick.
Sorry I am going too far of the subject...just venting...I think I just keep my mouth shut and stuff a big mac in it...

I have too many personnel problems to worry about-I hope it doesnt get as bad as you say. What can we really do about it if it does happen? Do we really have the power to stop a major depression and if not why are you dwelling on it?

It's not gonna be that bad, dude. Never worry about it, things keep ticking along just fine.

The avg person will find it almost impossible to become homeless.

Autumn Storm
Yeah, If Obama is elected president, then I guess that my white tale might be next to becoming homeless!! (When) I become homeless, then I want have to worry about the economy anymore, now would I!! WORD!!

Sorry Mike!! I should of bean more clear about who I’m really angry at right now, and I should of said that this was towards Obama!! Sorry dude, but I was pressed for time, because I had an exam to study for at the time! I was being sarcastic, like I mainly act, and I’m vigorously upset at Obama right now, because he has caused allot of chaos between the whites and blacks right now! I have allot of black friends and I do have allot of black teachers that I admire in my life, and have great respect for! At one point I was going to vote for Obama, and I quickly changed my mind, because he is starting a race war right now, for his own personal gain! If you ask me, we all was getting along just fine, until he stepped up to the plate! Now there is great friction between the whites and the blacks, and that is wrong for him to cause chaos between the two races like that! I’m old school, and I was raised in the late 80’s and early 90’s when, we all partied together, and all got along just fine! Take care man!!

sis
No I don't care about US economy, doesn't concern me!

Debs Room
I believe President Bush's Economic Stimulus Plan is coming right on time to help prevent a recession....think he is pulling us out of this one. As so many seem to think, he is NOT a stupid person. ...rather the opposite.
