No, i think living beyond your means can actually be an illness. Sticking to a budget makes me feel better, because then i don't have to sweat it out between paychecks.
My biggest downfall is buying electronics and gaming stuff, and downloading from Napster! So i have a set amount i can spend on this stuff and then stick to it. Otherwise i feel bad and "why did i spend it on THAT?" :-) |

I would feel like a failure if I were several thousands in debt, like many people.
We buy what we need and a few of our wants.
Society tells us we need it now. My upbringing says put your money in the bank.
We don't owe anyone. We own our property. |

When I say no to one thing I'm saying yes to something bigger. No to a new pair of shoes I don't need often enough and I can get the nicer bed or whatever that I do need. |

No, I feel like a success! I feel that being abe to over come the feeling that I have "less than" is a success in itself. Most importantly I believe life is about appreciating what you have, not wanting what you don't. I also think it's healthy to want things; it gives you a goal to work towards. |

like you said we are told what we want by many mediums so it's not really what we need so budgeting is important but the top priority is not so I can save up a couple of bucks to buy that shining new soccer shoes but so that I can manage myself on getting my basic daily needs first then if I have some left I can choose to goto a mall and check out a shoe store for the newcommers. So if you do budget yourself it's best for long term action rather then a short couple of weeks or months so I have enough to get a new mobile phone coz that way you'll be pressured and have the chance to fail like you said. It's all about priority in this matter. |

Don't have a budget, but live simple. You will be surprise how easy life can then be. |

be realistic - you only think you need what companies SELL YOU that is why u probably dont need it you just think you do -
its called selling and marketing |

No. Being a failure would be wanting to indulge in whatever tickles your fancy, like a child. People who live like that inevitably end up as losers. All successful people know that many times you have to say no to yourself. |

Living on a budget is great. But try putting a little extra in that budget if you can for some of those wants and needs.
you get one life to live and if something is fun or makes you happy go do it or purchase it with your money you saved for that little something extra. |

Never mind the media. They won't help you when you are on a bind. Live within your means. You should have known what we went through during Marial Law years in our country. You will realize how we managed to survive till now.
Just never give a hoot to people and institutions who will never help you in your most dire need. |

No I dont feel like a failure, I feel like Im trying to discipline myself NOW so that I can have what I want in the future. No self control can lead to 'debt & regret'. I realize now that I shouldve told myself no many times b4, then I wouldnt have these CC bills stacked up. Telling yourself 'no' now can eventually lead to saying 'YES!' later to the finer things in life. |

I've lived very poor alot of my life. I am a better off now than I ever have been, but I'm still only in middle income. I am used to knowing the difference between want & need. I need clothes, but I want 20 different pairs of jeans. I need a house to live in, but not a 6 bedroom house with a pool. I actually feel smart when I have decide between what I want versus need. I think about the money saved that I can use for something else. My family may not have the finer things in life, but we all have what we need & usually get a little extra, too. We're all grateful because we know that there are plenty out there with less. And we have each other as well. So on the rare occasion that I have a pity party about what I can't have/do I try to look for something I can. |

Actually no I don't feel like a failure to live within a budget, if I want something so bad I will save for it. I truly believe good things come to those who wait. |

Of course not! I think I even feel successful by saying "no" to myself sometimes. Saying "no" means great control. Something very few people can do or say especially to ones self. |

I do feel like a failure because my prirorities come first and making a budget means setting out first things first. |

You said it yourself - Its often what we think we need rather than actually need. As has been said elsewhere, firms have to market there wares and spend millions on advertising because it works! Keep disciplined, don't spend beyond your needs, - and you'll live happy! |
