The easy answer is to pay cash.
If you paying by credit and someone steals your card number and you notifiy the credit card company as soon as you notice the fraudulent charges, your maximum liability for the fraud is $50, and most card companies don't make you pay that unless they think you were negligent in some way. The biggest problem here is the hastle of dealing with the credit card company, filling out afidavits, etc.
FYI - your bank debit card with a Visa or Mastercard logo are required to act the same way as a real credit card as far as fraudulent charges. |

Yes that does bother me in this day and age. I try to avoid using credit cards in restaurants where they take it away to swipe it. I try to use debit or cash especially in that situation. If you need to you can always ask to go with them to pay. |

Phone your bank and speak to the 'security' dept.
They could have copied your details and could use it over the phone or Internet.
It happened to a friend of mine who used hers on a plane.
Then found out that someone had managed to buy goods to value of nearly 2K. |

I don't know if you are in the UK or not, but this will become a problem of the past, because of the introduction of chip and PIN, where you have to enter your PIN in to a terminal (so you are always with your card).
Otherwise, it's cash.
There have been some instances in the UK where chip and PIN machines have been nobbled, and fraudulant transactions made abroad (petrol stations seem particularly vulnerable).
I find the best solution is to get cash from an ATM (preferably one inside a bank), and pay with this.
In the meantime, monitor your bank account daily online, so you can catch anything unusual quick. |

No. Always check your statements. Most legit banks offer theft protection as well. Nothing to really worry about. Your identity can't be stolen because they need more than a cc for that. |

Well they have to take it to charge u, they always do it to me, is normal, until now there is not "extra charges on mine".
DO NOT use debit, it will be worst if something happens cause once they use it the "Real" money is gone and by the time u get it back and if u actually get it back, you will be missing money from u bank.
On credit cards (at least mine) they call me if there is a weird charge that I have never done before or it doesn't "fit me" and if I tell them if wasn't me, they block it and they investigate, but wont charge u for it if they cant probe it was you and it is not a normal charge u do regularly but the bank is way harder.
Check ur card online regularly at least a week or so before ur payment is due, or twice a month if u can. |

Get involved with online banking. You can check your account activity within a couple hours of the transaction. If there are bogus charges, your card provider will make it good. |
