I feel bad about your position & I respect what you are doing. I f I were you, & I was a poor college student, I would sell any old books laying around on Half.com. I usually received about 80% of the amount I payed for each book.

If no luck there. Things I have seen that go a lot father than you think.
Have your child find areas where has interested in and ask those organizations to help. You will be blown away by what options might be there. Example your child likes a non-profit organization in your neighborhood, they have money in their operating budgets for education programs $400-$800 to them nothing to you a big help. |

I think that text books are extremely overpriced and there should be an option where the information on textbooks could be included on a CD which could in turn lower the price of education. |

Check with the financial office of the school you are attending. You may be eligible for a student work study which should cover the cost of books and not take more than 10 hours of work per week. |

A loan would cover it, and also look at other stores or shop on-line for cheaper books because college bookstores sell books at outrageous prices. Get your child to shop around on-line when he/she finds out what they need for class. |

hrhtheprince: wait till you see the bill. i know a lot of people who are career students because the bill is over 30k (and they have to start repaying as soon as they graduate, to they just stay in school, acquiring more debt.) |

I would check about a student loan. My University offered an "emergency" loan for books, and then expedited the loan paperwork. I know taking a loan is scary, but if that is what gets you through, do it. In the end, when you have an education and a degree, I doubt that you will regret it! |

You don't say where you live but most places, there are organizations around who are willing to help people with such things. Try talking to you school councilor, everybody's got one. |

Do you qualify for state or county aid? If you do, there are various groups that will finance your schooling with no cost to you. Look into it anyways I'm sure you'll find one (if you don't qualify). They are always willing to do for single moms . |
