why not turn your part time into full time for the next 3 1/2 months? and go to night school (you will need the practice for 18 hour days anyway) after the baby is born enroll them into a co-op daycare or have a family member or friend watch him/her while you return to work f/t. put everything you make in a bank except for baby's needs until you have enough for your own place. (forget about nail and hair appointments for you. and don't even think about those name brand clothes either!) time for you to realize your decision is one that requires lots of work and sacrafices. also be sure to immediately file for child support thru your local office (forget about his word that he will help you out-do it legal (the dead beat already proved he isn't there when he should be). your baby should be raised on your income and his. not the state and county tax payers. sorry to say dear but you made a grown up decision time to act like one |

Depending on where you live ( which state/province/country) there are quite a few options for you including social assistance.
Since you're currently in school I'd advise speaking with a student adviser who would have information about what is available to you in your area.
you can also call your local social assistance/welfare office, and talk to your family doctor. |

Check with your local Department of Social Services.... In addition, check with your school becuase there are a lot of schools that offer assistance with children, such as onsite daycare, housing, etc.
And make sure that you file for child support (which you CAN do while you are pregnant) |

In our area we have Crisis Pregnancy Centers and organizations called Healthy Families, Mentor Moms, WIC (women, infants, and children). Your local welfare office (department of family and children or social service agency) can give you financial assistance and point you in some good directions. If you live with your mom, you can still qualify for assistance if you pay your mom some rent (even $100/month) and she writes a receipt for it. (what she does with that money is then up to her) And if you buy your food separate from her. Some colleges offer counseling that might help you find some assistance as well. There is lots of help out there, so don't give up! You can do this! |

You can get a pell grant with the collage also ask financial aid at your collage. Call your local family services and see what your state offers. If you are a single parent in school full time, you may qualify for daycare assistance, if you do that i recoment a center atmosphere such as kindercare, those places stay on to of the assistance better. Also you may qualify for food stamps. Don't be imbarassed, it is about hummbeling yourself to provide for your baby. medicaide insurance all this you can get at your local family service. Also wic. Call your local wic office. Good luck, there is a lot of help out ther, you just need to call around |

Hi. Sorry to hear about the rough stuff. I've been there, so I know where you're coming from. Here's what I know that might help you, but these things can be different for each state, so you'll have to check into them in your area to see if these things are available.
1. Call the Crisis Pregnancy Center in your area. They are a pro-life agency and work hard to help you find a way to make it and still keep your baby. Even if your personal views on the rights of mothers are different than theirs, they do have some solutions that may help you get through some rough patches. The only thing they ask is that you don't have an abortion and it sounds like you've already made that decision, so it shouldn't be a problem. Tell them your situation and ask if there is anything they can suggest. They know more about this type of thing for your area than anyone, so they are a good start.
2. Contact HUD, see what you have to do to get on their waiting list. I know they give preferences to pregnant women who are homeless, but there may be other preferences that you'll be able to get. HUD helps you find affordable housing and helps pay a bulk of the rent.
3. Contact your school, tell them you're expecting and ask if there is anyway you can work giving birth around your school schedule. Then, if your school offers it, for the next term or two, do your best to take online classes so that you can have a bit of flexibility in your schedule. Online classes are great and let you kind of set your own schedule instead of having to worry about getting a baby sitter, getting to class on time, etc.
4. If your school doesn't offer online classes, check around for some that do. WVU is my school and I know they have online as well as campus classes. Some of my online classmates were from Georgia, so I know that they can be flexible where location is concerned. There are other schools too, that do the same thing. Search around for one and transfer temporarily if you have to. There is nothing wrong with going back and forth if you have to do that to be a student and a mom at the same time.
5. Contact DHHR or whatever the name of your welfare department is in your area. I know it's kind of rough going through them, but they can provide medical care, food stamps and sometimes a little cash for living expenses which might tie you over through rough times. You only have a limited amount of time on their programs for cash, so use as little as you can and get off of it as soon as you can afford to do so.
6. Contact your local WIC if you haven't done so already. They'll give you milk and cheese, and other healthy food stuffs that will give you the nutrients you need for you and your baby. After the baby is born, they will help with breast pumps, formula, baby cereal, etc. If your baby is like my three girls were, you will be nursing and feeding formula to keep up with their enormous appetites. Since formula is so expensive, this is a great blessing and can save you around $300 a month.....at least.
7. When contacting WIC, ask them if they have a program called "Right from the start:". That place will help you with counselling (only if you want it), makes sure you're getting enough nutrition and help and provides you with car seats and other necessities if you can't affor them yourself. They are a good organization and only help you as much as you want them too.
8. Another program is Birth to Three. They have various services that help struggling moms. I've never had to use them much, so I'm not that familiar with what they do, but I think they are a national organization and you might find them useful.
9. Contact welfare about getting help with child care. They will pay for it if you can't afford it and they have a list of approved sitters that they pay to watch your kid the right way. You'll have to do a little paperwork to get started, but that's no big deal.
10. Contact Salvation Army. Sometimes for low income families or struggling new moms, they gather donations of items that will help you care for your child like baby beds, beds for you, dishes, etc. If they don't have anything right away, ask them if they know who does since they will know other agencies like them who do those things. The other agency here is called Christian help and they give out free food, clothes, furniture, etc, to needy families. I don't know where you are, but I imagine there are similar places where you are.
Lastly, get a list of the local food pantries in your area. A new baby will stretch finances and it's better to have a list of these places for the hard times than having to choose between your baby having diapers and you eating that day. I know all this sounds rough, but it is worth it and these are some of what you can do to get through the hard times. Fortunately, the baby will make all of it worth while, and once your schooling is finished, you'll be able to have a much easier time taking care of both of you.
PS: One other thing....go after the father for child support. Start the ball rolling now before he leaves town or something. I don't care how poor or rich he is, he's half responsible and he should at least fork over a few bucks to help take care of the child. Getting an order for child support doesn't mean he has any rights to see the child. That is only determined by a judge if the case goes to court. The money is independant of all of that other stuff.
Good luck to you and hang in there. Email if you need anything else. Take care, hon. |

What state do you live in? You can make an appointment with Human Services and they will provide you with all the assistance you need. They do everything. If you give me your city and state, I will guide you with exact address. |

I am sure there a plenty out there your best bet is to talk to the college coordinator. They have too much information regarding everything about student life, crisis and local programs for students. |
