No I do not.Things happen to people that are beyond their control. |

it would depend on the reasons for their having done so. |

I wouldn't lend them money, but they are already facing the consequences of their actions for the next 10 years. |

You ask, I answer

my brother-in-law and his wife declared bankruptcy, moved in with my in-laws, and THEN had another baby. them, i look down on. anyone else, as long as you really NEED to declare it, and are not using it to get out of paying bills, then fine. not a problem. it's when you try to cheat the system for doing it. |

Not automatically. More than half the bankruptcies are over medical bills--and most of those folks were insured. They did what they were supposed to do and the improper system let them down (and no, I am NOT for universal health care. We need to fix the system so it's really free market.)
Other people tend to go bankrupt because of divorce or job loss. In those cases there may be a lot more personal responsibility (some people are too damn casual about marriage and others are too demanding about what kind of work they'll do). However, I suspect the majority of folks filing for bankruptcy aren't bums in any remote way. IF our ed system provided a PROPER ed and our media did its job better, a lot fewer bankruptcies would occur because people would understand business basics, what to be concerned about, that marriage is NOT "just a piece of paper," that jobs aren't all just there for the easy picking, etc.
I hear a lot of idiocy in the media and some folks have to learn the hard way that most of that stuff is just inaccurate--they see the stupid celeb stories, they hear about the "help wanted signs," and they believe. |

I do not, but if I happend did, it wouldn't be something that I would annouce to people. Everyone mess up now and then, that most important thing is to learn their lesson and BENEFIT FROM IT. =) |

no way. as long as they have their sh*t together now. |

No, not at all. Especially if they have learned their lesson. |

I declared bankruptcy because I lost my drivers license
because I was in an accident with no insurance
BEFORE IT WAS A LAW
and there was a $4000 lien on my license.
It seemed SO OVERWHELMING to me, i did a bankruptcy. i regret it.
Sh!t happens. Who am I (or you) to judge anyone? |

Not really, I had to declare bankruptcy after having breast cancer at age 24 with no health insurance. I had no other debt up to that point. There are people who take advantage of it though. |

No. One, people make mistakes and at least they can learn from that and two, not everyone who had to declare bankruptcy is bad at money management - sometimes life just gives them a raw deal and they have no other option. |

People dont always have a choice. My parents had to declare bankruptcy after i had to have a major open heart surgery. they did thier best to pay not only all of their bills but also all of my bills for several months. on top of that they were trying to help my brother and (at the time his new wife) get moved to NY bc my brother was in iraq and thier base was in NY. so finally my dad ended up just breaking financially. he was doing his best to keep us all a float when we were all in a horrible time in our lives. and im sure there are many more people who have to declare bankruptcy for reasons out of thier control. why whould they be looked down on?! |

No, I just see people who have made a mistake or were naive. |

There is no shame in admitting you need help. Sometimes people can't help their situations. I'd be living on the streets if it wasn't for my parents and not because I can't get a job. |

heck yes especially if they owe me money. |

No not if they haven't done it on purpose, its much better to try and fail than not try at all |

Creditors do and people in business industries. But somethings life just happens. Bankrupcy is not always the persons fault, and since there are different chapters of bankrupcy that depends too. It is all going to depend on what chapter you have filled and what is claimed on it. |
